When will we hit 200,000 clips?

He took some great shots, and his still pans are nice, but the camera move shots are so jumpy and awful. He would be golden with a good camera.

Where do I join the band of P5? I want to be a rockstar too!

Scott just keep working. I like doing Stock because this is like the front lines of the entertainment industry. Anyone can join, you can see whats popular, whats not, you learn what people like. Personally I want to make movies and this is all part of my training. :)

I think the hv30 is good entry cam, although if I were you I would just do CG and save up for a really good camera.

Yeah the 5d camera is harder to hold, but I think I can work around that.

The thing about the 5d is that it basically behaves similarly to a film camera because of the lense and sensor etc... It is clearer than any video camera in existence. Yes you could say red one is clearer because its raw, but the sensor size is smaller and you have to compress red footage eventually anyway.

I was also thinking about getting a straigt up film camera, which is better than all video cameras. The konvas is a a cheap 35mm russian camera ($2,000)

Then you have to get the film processed and converted though right? Wouldn't that be time consuming and expensive? Don't get me wrong I'm all for great work and what ever it takes to get it. I have only heard of one friend processing film film and he said it was a pain in the...

So if I save up for a "good camera" how much would I need? I'm mainly just interested in entry level, since it would be my first camera. Maybe that is a mistake though? Do you just end up buying the real deal or wanting that a month later?
ironstrike 10 Feb 2009 01:50
Yes it is a total pain in the ....
You can scan film with a printer copier machine, but thats even more time consuming. lol thats the ghetto way of doing it. (plus you have to expose it to chemicals so the light doesnt expose it anymore)
Film is really expensive too, like 6 - 12 cents a foot, (last I checked) and that adds up REAL fast. Most likely I will NOT get it, but Im considering it....

I think you can get a good prosumer camera for 3000, but the way I see it why bother with an entry level? I mean if you want to upgrade later you might have to resell your old camera. I got my camera (an HVR A1U) for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it is professional grade and small. I wanted my camera to be small. (plus the nightvision is kickass). SO it depends on what you want, do you want to do studio work? You may want a small camera so you can go on "spy" missions with it. lol. Maybe you want it to take pictures as well so you can do long time lapses. (my cam has that)

Since you are good at AE it might be a bad idea to buy a camera with a lot of features, if you can do those features in post production.

Is buying used a big no no with cameras?
JHDT_Productions 10 Feb 2009 02:32
My FX1 I bought from a guy on Ebay. I also bought a few years ago a Nikon D1X from Ebay.
I look at their seller rating to make sure they haven't sold junk in the past.
You can get some good deals in used equipment, but you take a chance that if it breaks the next day, you don't have a warranty and bought a box of rocks.
I think B&H and Adorama both sell used equipment with a 30 day warranty but it's higher priced then Ebay.

Looked it up the price on the HVR A1U is not bad at all, well under 3 grand.
Small would be good for me I don't need any thing huge, and spy missions would be a must. Does it have allot of features? Because like you said I really don't have much need for them. The main thing I really want it for is combining what I do now with live footage. Some regular clips would be cool to though. The time lapse is a big thing for me also.
bryanbush 10 Feb 2009 02:37
Ah good to know thanks Jake, good point about the warranty I never think about that.

Bryan, the sony HVR-A1U can be purchased from bhphotovideo for 2099.00 plus a 200.00 rebate and free shipping. It's not the greatest camera but will do the job.
