Canon rumors

Wasn't MJPEG banned from P5?
You all now that I am not a pro. I am doing more and more things in my small studio room using artificial lighting. I find that studio work requires much more color manipulation and with 8 bit h.264/mov I feel very limited on what I can do. Reading tells me that 10 bit will give me better results. Outside in the bright Caribbean sun, I feel it is really not a big issue.

No P5 doesn't like .AVI. Motion JPEG sells well and will forever.

Don, I visited the FAQ and things keep changing here. Now PhotoJpeg is: "Please set to highest quality possible." So now we can upload PhotoJpeg at 100% quality depending on the length of the file.

The unwanted codecs are:
"We do not accept the following codecs:
(highly compressed, low quality)
-Motionjpeg
-Avi
-Non native mp4.
-Our system does not yet support DNxHR 4k resolution clips, however we are working to remedy this. Please check here for any developments. "

They did ban MJPEG from being uploaded. My brother had a bunch of clips rejected for MJPEG about a year ago.

Jonathan does P5 really want PJPEG at 100%. That is not a good idea. Very large files with no gain.

Also Jonathan; Canon 1Dx MK II is Motion JPEG in 4K. Is P5 really not taking MJPEG?

I remembered a while back P5 saying they were deleting all .AVI with fewer than ten sales. I remember nothing about deleting MJPEG. That would be a real killer, I sell MJPEG every week. Major producers and broadcasters use historic and not too old (less then ten years) old footage which are almost all MJPEG files. Tell us it is not so on MJPEG.

I think this is also new: "If you choose to color-correct or stylize your footage, it would be best to upload both the original and the modified version, giving buyers more options."

WOW years ago I did that and had them rejected saying don't send stylized clips. Buyers can do it they want to.
BunFest 4 Feb 2016 08:04
Yes, they rejected lot of my stylized clips which they accepted before. Now I must upload either one or both version, but stylized clips do sell.

So do we have word on MJPEG yet? If it's NO then the 1Dx MK II is out of the question and a company (Canon) far bigger than P5 has decided differently than P5.

Not sure why any format would be deleted once it's there. To accept new .avi doesn't make sense. I have sold a lot of .avi but if a particular clip has less than ten sales it's gone. So one which is proven with six sales or eight is now deemed not saleable. Hummmm ok.

MJPEG is definitely not dead or unwanted. New .avi is dead.

I broke down and ordered the 1DX MK II. It looks like a great all-in-one camera for photo and video. Yes it looks like it's not 10 bit but very very few stock footage is. It's a brick for size but the specs beat the new Nikon in almost every respect by a large margin. In may ways it's over kill for stock footage. It should future proof for many years.
