2 tier system

DavidHornchurch 8 Aug 2024 15:45
Just received a very positive worded email from pond 5 stating they will be going ahead with putting video into a two tier system standard and premium, would be useful if they stated what these 2 prices will be but no, positive words and what’s the betting the pricing will suit the customer more than the artist, customers are apparently confused when there can be different prices, odd that this doesn’t happen to them in a supermarket, for now we can set our own prices then, if I read it right pond5 will decide the price, expensive or cheap, my money is on very cheap

I have over 30,000 driving plates set at $399, and have been having very healthy sales of these. The industry standard is $850, so mine are already way below my competitors. If Pond5's new pricing structure forces me to lower the prices, I will have no option but to remove my library.

Yup me too - but where to go?

Hi,

Have a look here https://www.microstockgroup.com/pond5/big-surprise-of-pond5's-new-'price-test'-they-actually-raised-price-on-most/

So if they are raising prices that would be for the people that sell 4K footage for 20 dollars, but lowering the prices for people selling at 200 dollars

For reference, the email in question:

Dear Artists,

After recent price tests on video clips, we’re excited to share some promising results! The Pond5 marketplace has always been unique in offering “variable prices,” meaning artists set their prices. While this approach allows for flexibility, it results in over 1,000 price points across the marketplace.

Competitive and data analysis shows that offering too many prices causes customer confusion and friction. Furthermore, Pond5 customers prefer licensing individual assets over subscriptions because their work is project-based.

To understand how customers would respond to a simpler pricing model, we ran a test for US customers in which all video clips were split into two price tiers, Standard and Premium. The results have been encouraging! The test significantly beat expectations for critical metrics, including increased buyer engagement and driving more revenue.

The new video price tiers will be implemented across all currencies on Pond5, and the Contributor Agreement will be updated effective August 22, 2024. A copy of the new Contributor Agreement can be found here.

We appreciate your ongoing partnership and adaptability as we work to optimize the uploader to account for the new price tiers. For now, please set prices for any new content as you always have, and our tools will place it in the appropriate tier.

Enhancing our offering to drive the most value for you and the Pond5 community is our top priority. By continuously analyzing customer purchasing behavior, we gather valuable insights to guide future testing on Pond5’s prices and tiers. Rest assured, we’ll inform you of any significant changes that could impact your experience with Pond5.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our Support team at support@pond5.com.

Best,

Your Friends at Pond5

Their "tools" will determine level? How about the nearly 40,000 clips I already have on site? How does the extremely large P5 portfolio get put into the levels?

"How does the extremely large P5 portfolio get put into the levels?"

The same way P5 reset our clip prices into Standard or Premium for the pricing test - their software will scan all clips and set appropriate price tier. When we submit new clips P5 said we should price as before and their s/w will set the price tier.
