More Categories?

Now that we're over 300,000 clips, is there any chance P5 could add some more categories? I'm thinking specifically one for military/crisis/war, since I have a few hundred of those up - and a few thousand that may eventually make it up. And shooting more all the time.

This is exactly why categories are increasingly useless, in my opinion.

No matter how many categories are presented, you'll never have all bases covered, and for those clips that have no "right" category, you end up crow-barring it into a category that's "sort of" proper.

When I buy clips (which I do, too), I never browse by category. I just enter some keywords and find the clip I need. I don't care what category it's in.

Remember when Yahoo had categories on it's homepage? If not, http://web.archive.org/web/19980704235350/http://www4.yahoo.com/... They went away, since searching for what you're looking for is more efficient that browsing thru categories.

Wow, I remember that yahoo page... those were the days when you had no clue what the internet was good for and needed categories to guide you.

I think categories have their place, but adding too many is just silly. I do like that P5 doesn't force you to choose them when submitting clips, like on other sites, where sometimes I really do feel I am dropping it into a category it really doesn't fit in, but I have to pick 3.

I gotta agree with James on this one... I don't know of anyone who actually browses by categories any more. They all (including me) just search by keywords.

Also, one thing to remember is that categories don't really exist on Pond5 as such. When you select your (up to 3) categories, it simply adds those as keywords to your clip, which obviously, you can do yourself.

If there are categories then it should be expanded to better describe more types of clips. I kinda agree that category searches are not much good.

Yea, i too agree - its not more categories that are needed, however i wish we could add more than 25 keywords

i wish we could add more than 25 keywords too ;-)

Categories and keywords need to be defined better then they are on P5. For example search the word PIE and read the description, keywords and categories of these two clips 78658 and 458816. Now do they conform to the description of pie? Was clip 458816 taken with a Sony EX 3 camera? Do either of these clips have anything to do with pie?

What we have here at P5 is pure chaos when it comes to categories or searches. Surely sales might increase if categories were better defined and customers didn't have to wade through the mess some have created.

Dave, categories are not added to keywords as they have their own defined area under each clip and one doesn't need to use all three just because they can.

Clip 458816 has nothing to do with pie, and that keyword should be removed.

Clip 78658 probably was keyworded with "American pie", but was separated, which is yet another problem with the keywording system.

It's not just the keywording system. The categories need to be updated and defined as well. Where would you put military/crisis/war clips so they wouldn't add to the chaos?
