Sony RX-10 II

The sensor is new although it retains that sony colorimetry amongst others.
Maybe in standard profile they are identical but in Rec709 most cameras are almost identical anyway.
Im buying that camera for log,cine1/2 (night shots) ,slowmotion, and cheap gimbal adaptation -due to the size- .
Plus 12stops dr in raw with silent shutter makes this a very lucrative camera for timelapse and also hyperlapse (burst mode perhaps?).
The one thing i'd really like to know and noone mentions (and i guess i know why) is if there's a slow shutter option in video, below 1/25th.

Panasonic FZ1000 can shoot up to half a second with lock-up focus.

1/4th is the slowest shutter speed available on the RX10 II.

Well that concludes it then :)
Thank you sir.

Ah, yes of course it's a different sensor - it's got that stacked thingy. Sorry forgot.

Anyone know what strength the ND is?

3 stops

I did some 120 fps at 100mbps and it looked good, but I have my FS700 for slow motion, and really I'm trying not to shoot any HD stuff anymore... 4k or BUST!

For what the camera would have been I feel the AX100 does a good enough job, but again, if I were just buying a camera I would get the rx10ii because of the new features and it is a good photo camera. I couldn't justify trying to sell my ax100 to replace it with the rx10 :-)

I'm going to upgrade to something better by the end of the year. Not sure what yet, might be a7Rii+external recorder+nice lens or potentially C300 II. I really like the full frame 42mp sensor on the a7

I found the ND on the RX10M2 in use to be 2 stops

@gcrook have you considered the RX100IV, would be a good camera to gimbal.

C300 is a stupidly good piece of equipment.I could go for it right now and not worry for another camera for several years.
I thought briefly about the a7rii since you mentioned this but it's huge shortcomings in ergonomics amongst other things plus the overheating issue and the fact that there might be an a7s pretty soon in the form of a videocamera-ish made me forget all about it.
If in the near future 4K becomes more relevant and stock is still a business to make a living in, i might consider a good 4K cinema camera.
Propably a blackmagic if they decide to ship cameras with final fimware installed at the time of shipping and not over the course of 3 years.
Until then i cant justify expensive 3Kusd novelty dslr toys that overheat if they are not under an air-condition unit during the shoot and make wobblier images than a 50usd cell phone camera.

@Normstock Sony and everyone else says 3 "steps" apparently meaning stops. Are you absolutely sure about your measurements?
Not that it makes a big difference you still need 2-4 stops nd screwed in anyway.
The rx100 would be a nice alternative but i dont want a pocket camera for stock only,i want a camera that can shoot a documentary.
I need the longer lens, the longer recording time and the audio capabilities.
Plus price difference here is small.
I believe that the rx10 too can be fitted to every lightweight gimbal that can accommodate an a7s or a gh4.
Looking at this cheap beholder gimbal btw if they fix the preproduction model issues.
That or the cametv-single.
