Converting Video before upload

Hi all,
The last years i've been uploading my files from a XD-cam and or a DSLR. I always convert the files to Photo-jpeg. My question is..
Why should't i upload the original files from my XD-cam in MP4? They are smaller and its much easyer, Same for the MOV files from the DSLR.
Is there a good reason to convert them to photo-jpeg before uploading?
My idea is that a pro-editor can convert them if they like, a less pro-editor is happy with a smaller file. Any idea's about this?
Happy shooting

Photo Jpeg is universally compatible on both mac and pc as well as every editing software. Your footage would also probably be, but consumers will be confident they are buying a compatible file if it is a pjpeg.

I upload native raw footage from my Canon 60D dslr. I can trim my videos right in the camera's editing program which takes less than a min to create than if I would use editing program on my computer.

Hi HD_Vision! I looked at your work as presented in a typical display page. It doesn't indicate what type of file it is, just HD 1080 (1920x1080). I wonder what the buyer gets when they order? I upload my files - to all my sales sites - as Photo or Motion Jpeg.

Terry I just checked a couple of his clips and he is uploading in H264.

Thanks Jason. Looked, but unable to find that info myself on the clip display page. What am I missing? And thinking of it - what does the buyer get when they purchase? They have the option of downloading in the format of choice or does it default to the artist's format?

For now it defaults to what we uploaded. They stated a while back that they were working on something that auto makes an h264 version, but I have not seen that option at all when I have had to purchase stuff so far.

Physics, thanks. H264 looks pretty attractive to me at the moment - as it would simplify my upload and distribution on http://www.picWorkflow.com/?by=183. If I upload there and then distribute/syndicate it costs a relative arm and leg as PhotoJpeg. I wonder how seriously it would affect sales to use it. Perhaps not, as H264 becomes more digestible.

Terry H264 produces a smaller file size but it is an industry standard p-jpeg and customers will have to convert it.

I have wondered also. I have some h264 uploaded and they do ok. I am also an editor and h264 works fine for me. They only issue can be if you are doing more intensive color grading, it will become pixelated more easily. So as a more versatile file, pjpeg is best. I have sold h264 on this site though and it is hard to guess if it would actually effect sales. pjpeg is considered widely to have more color data, which could deter someone if they had a choice between h264 and pjpeg.
