While most lenses will work with a new 4K body, a line of new 4K lenses are also on the horizon, and they will do a better job.

@Beckhusen link was deleted. No 5D Mark IV there.

There are already lenses marketed for 4K from Canon. The Cine lenses but exorbitant expensive for producing B-Roll stock footage with them.

Great, after that I'll just have to wait that ML release a compatible version

They will probably announce the 1Dx II in February, deliver by NAB in April. I think they will have it our a couple months before the 5D MK IV so they can make the expensive sales first and not cannibalize the 1Dx II by cheaper 5D sales to start.

The existing L Lenses will do great on the new 4K dslr cameras. Just look at all the cell phone lenses, GoPro lenses and compare.

My hope for 2016 is that Canon unveils a new camera which can replace my 5DMkIII which have served me for more than 3 years and more than 200 000 exposures of stills and thousands of video footage, and still going strong!
A 5DMkIV with 4K in a robust codec and full HD 120 fps would be very nice.

I may go with the 1Dx II to replace my 5D MK II and III. Only hold back is the 1Dx is such a big camera.

I wouldn't count on any sort of robust codec in the 5d and probably not even in the 1dx. If you want robust they will make you upgrade to the cinema EOS line. At this point I don't think I can even get myself to spend money on the 5d mark iv. The GH5 will be out soon and will probably be better than the 5d in most ways (other than not being full frame and worse low light capabilities) but will cost half the price. For photography I will hold on to my 5d mark iii but I have finally allowed myself to get over canon and move on to either panasonic or sony for video.

Looks really nice albeit not official confirmed.

The 1dx looks like a great option. The best thing is that it is capable of capturing in photo jpeg rather than H.264 (which is a huge deal for a dslr). You only have to pay $6,000 for it and have a substantially larger body! As of right now, according to the rumors its a 50 50 chance of whether or not the 5d mark iv will even be capable of shooting 4K and no one knows when it will be released. I don't know if I am willing to spend $6,000 for a camera body that will be outdated in two years. At least with the panasonic Gh line you are only spending $1500 every few years to upgrade the body. For me, I don't know that stock footage is profitable enough to sustain a continual upgrade of the Canon 1d series. I'll have to think about it some more.

www.canonrumors.com has the official specs out for the camera now.
