Canon rumors

OMG Canon doesn't get it! Again good camera with such a shitty 8 Bit codec WTF? I don't know about it's dynamic range capabilities but this would be the GO TO photo/video camera for outdoor work with it's great weather sealing if it only had a better codec like 10 Bit ProRes422HQ / RAW DNG.

Nice:
Full weather sealing
GPS
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
4K 60fps / FullHD 120fps

absolutely NO GO:
shitty 8 Bit codec (never again!)

Isn't it $6000?
Daniel, you are so right. For $6k it needs to be much better than that.
Canon has missed the boat again.

Agreed. They cripple their lower end stuff so they can sell their higher end stuff (C300)

Jake,

Just keep your Sony.. :D

Sony A7S II cost only 3,000-, Dirty cheap compare with the new Canon.

Glad to see I am not the only one with concerns. I will keep using them for photography but when it comes to video I am much more excited about sony and panasonic these days.

Pat, I'm not giving Canon anymore money.
Especially upgrading my C300 for that MKII

So for years we have all been talking about 422, 444 etc etc etc. 8 bit versus 10 versus 12 and on and on. Does it really matter for stock? There are now dozens of movies, some of them first run big budget that use Canon 5D MK II, 7D and even GoPro 3. Do it does it really matter? Will buyers not buy it because of these "shortfalls"? Still amazing how many old tape captured interlaced clips I sell every week. I don't think it a big issue when it really comes down to it.

I wish it had an option for UHD to match the format of HD and almost all TV screens. The full 4K just doesn't match and will take cropping by the end user to use it.

@RekindlePhoto its not only for stock. It "could" have been a great allround photo & video camera. But for $6000 and 8 Bit forget it.
Did you ever shot in 10 Bit? This opens a complete new world, in Resovle you can do so much more with the footage. 8 Bit just falls apart veeeeeerrrrry quickly.

One question I have is with the stock websites. Do they keep the file as 10 bit? From what I understand here at Pond5 when they down convert they automatically convert it to h.264 which makes it an 8bit file right? If you don't down convert does it stay a 10 bit file?
RekindlePhoto 3 Feb 2016 03:03
From what I've heard is almost everything at all agencies are h.264 8 bit. So if GoPro and for hecks sake IPhone and cell phone clips sell and are used does it really matter? So if 8 bits fall apart then 95% of all stock footage is no good?
