Sony Vegas Problem

I'm having trouble with the last 3 frames of my HD clips being black frames.

When I click of the playing controls to go to the end of the clip it is black, if I press one time on the four way arrow keys on my keyboard to go back it gets rid of the black by a count of three frames.

My clips are from a Canon HV 30 captured by HDsplit. I have set project properties as 1440x1080, 29.97fps

I have been struggling to learn Vegas and find it difficult to trim or set in and out points.

Can I upload with this last frame being black, or is there a solution?

Thanks

Norman

Hi Norman,

I wouldn't submit a video with black frames.
Can you just edit the last few frames out and render that?
In Vegas, go to the end of the vid, just before the black frames and press "S" on the keyboard to separate that last part out, click on those last frames and press delete.

Or have you tried that and it won't get rid of those frames?

Yes I tried that, the resulting clip still has 3 black frames, thanks for the quick response. Even when I bring a clip in from the HDVSplit software the last 3 frames are black, would looping get rid of it?

Hi Norman,

Hmmm, I don't know why you can't get rid of the black frames. Sometimes I get them but editing always takes them out.
Have you tried to render the clip to the final quicktime format and viewing it to see if it is still there?
Are we talking about one clip or is it more?

Also have you tried to capture the video from the camera just using Vegas instead of hdvsplit?

Thanks Jake for the suggestions, I'm going to capture with Vegas, just starting that. The black frames seem to be on all the clips I produce at the moment.

I have just imported direct to Vegas and edited a clip.............no black frames and it is 1920x1080 and looks to be good quality.

Thanks Jake.

Great to hear!
I'm not familar with hdvsplit but I went to the forums and seems people are having a few problems, grainy/noisy video, dropped frames (which may be what you were experiencing.)

I had only read good things about HDVsplit, thats why I decided to try it. Thinking about it, I only ever shoot clips of 10 to 20 seconds, so I do the HDVsplit process myself in camera.

Thanks again Jake.

THere are some other neat tricks in Sony Vegas once you have your clips in the timeline. You can select a region, then double click the region bar above the timeline to highlight it. Once it is highlighted, right click inside the highlighted region anywhere except on the clip itself and select "Render to new track" , then pick your render type or rendering format you want and make sure the "Region only" box is checked. This makes for a very efficient way to select and render finished goods. You can also move the entire region bar by grabbing it at the very top and moving it up and down the timeline. If you want an exact length, say 30 seconds exact - simply double click the number in the bottom right hand corner of the app, and replace the digits by typing in 30;00 (notice the semicolon) - the digits after the semicolon are frames. Hence if you enter 26;04 it will create a selection of 26 seconds and 4 frames exactly.

Now that is cool!
Thanks for that info.
