30p and 25p

Suppose on what kind of software you´re using. I´m on Mac and FCP. Using Cinema Tools is like a breeze.

@PerJohan: how long does it take to render a 30 sec shot and mostly what do you get? The maths makes this conversion impossible no matter your tool or OS.

Well, as I said in an earlier post going from 30 fps to 25 or 24 fps is relative easy with a tool like Cinema Tools. But note that your footage will be slightly slowed down as you´re using the same amount of frames.
Below is some links that explain this better than me:

"using the same amount of frames" - that is slowing down, simply playing the same frames at lower rates, no need for special tools.

From your second link: "to do so, it has to interpolate (estimate frames that are between 2 original frames) . In other words, for each second you get 30 input frames and you need to create e.g. 24 output frames. Output frame 3 of that second will be created out of input frames 3 and 4, combined in some way."

From the same link: "Unfortunately, this is quite slow AND low quality."

Interpolation means invention of what does not exist and is the week part of any method/system/tool/OS - and this is what I basically mean.

Anyway, I going to convert some 30pclips for the USA TV market into clips into 25p for the European TV market and see how it goes.

In the 25 p clip the motion is kind of segmented, there are moments of freezing, little moments but noticeable.

Is there a loss of detail in the palm trees?

BUT, we still don't have a way to link together the 30fps, 25fps etc etc into the same individual search result or footage file do we? So it would be like having the same footage but being counted as several different ones?
bryanbush 8 Dec 2011 00:07
Don't you just ask P5 and they do that for you?
RekindlePhoto 8 Dec 2011 00:14
ok, so just give them the file numbers and they link them all together? I have some footage that P5 has converted for buyers at different sizes or fps and then both files are listed together. I didn't know it was a manual thing and P5 would take the time to do it. Great.
