MJPEG-B not accepted codec any more?

Indeed, nothing is perfect!

On a very practical note, if Pond5 would start converting all the clips, would it actually be necessary to upload in ProRes? For me it would be kind of a hassle as I'm mostly using PP and have no direct access to FCP. At this point I'd have to start looking into buying FCP X, which is hardly worth it considering the income I generate from stock footage (and I wouldn't use it to edit anyway).

I'll stick with PJPEG or H264, which seems OK for now. Maybe a silly question by the way, but how can you actually check the codec on clips that are for sale? I can't see it in the description anywhere.

My understanding is those of us using Premier Pro CS5 don't have the capability to process into ProRes. I believe Apple has released it for the Mac version but not the PC version. Is that right?
zygistudio 20 Jan 2012 09:04
As I understand, there are no software / conversion package for PC with the ProRes output option.

"Auto converting is not that difficult - it's a matter of scripting. " - it is a matter of processing power.

"those of us using Premier Pro CS5 don't have the capability to process into ProRes" - yes, we do via FFMPEG. Someone said earlier in this thread or forum that FFMPEG has now ProRes capability. I never tried it but I will give it a try asap.

@stefhoffer, when you view a clip, click on the small i icon to the right of price and a small window open with clip tech information

I wonder if I shall re upload my most selling and viewed clip in prores. My portfolio is not that large so it could be done in just a few days. Nice if P5 staff could tell us what to do (are they going to convert old motion jpeg)?

To be honest I have already started to re-upload some clips. Been playing around with correcting using curves (this is all new to me - I started shooting on U-matic and stepped away from it as a full time job some years ago - before NLE systems went mainstream!).

This clip is the original MJPEG

This is the newer version in H.264 after some "tweaking"
Cannot find item [10685098]!

As you say it would be nice of P5 to say something before they get swamped with uploads!

swamped and mass duplications since most old files will not be deleted.
zygistudio 20 Jan 2012 16:53
It could work very beautifully without any duplicates if Pond5 would have a 'versions' of the clip. Then all versions of the clip (including in ProRes or other format) would be listed and priced on one page (like in RS). Buyer will choose what version / format / codecs / price he needs.
RekindlePhoto 20 Jan 2012 18:45
yup that is exactly what is needed. A choice of formats that the buyer can select that best fits their needs. This way everyone from the big production houses down to the mom and pop web page developer can get a format that matches their graphics programs and capabilities. RS has a good conversion system just not a good marketing and selling system.

I understand that most European Producers use FCP. Most American producers use either Premier CS5 or Avid Media. Composer. Wouldn't the American market prefer Pjpg instead of Apple ProRes? Can someone please enlighten me?
