MJPEG-B not accepted codec any more?

Ok, but what about an auto conversion of existing MJPEG from the P5 server side? Sure sounds like a very smart economic procedure to be done at P5's end to convert existing MJPEG to h.264 or Prores? I'm sure there at tens of thousands of them that are "sellable". Does not make sense to write-off existing footage just because it is no longer a preferred format.
Prores is still not an option for a majority of stock shooters due to the Apple proprietary processing. h.264 in many cases is also not good and unless the conversion is done correctly and carefully it looks like crap.
I think many are asking for P5 to step up with an automated process to help process and convert existing and future formats into the most sell-able formats and list the options to the buyers .... a win-win suggestion. Heck is RS can do it with their low sales it should be a no brainer for P5.

We absolutely agree. We have a lot of files we plan on converting via an automatic process, and when Mjpeg was phased out, those files were added to the list. At the moment we are doing the conversions on a case by case basis, but we will be doing conversions to universal formats automatically soon. For the moment, we're doing it on a case by case basis, but we agree that doing it automatically is a preferable option.

Kennon,
On these 'case by case' situational requests.... what has the preferred codec been that P5 has converted MJPEGs into ?

Maybe p5 should make a feature that we can upload a new version of clips to an excising one. We could make our own conversions then what probably would go allot faster.

Problem is there at tens of thousands of them from many artists. It needs to be a priority at the server level. Sounds like P5 agrees.

Very good question Postquis.
"On these 'case by case' situational requests.... what has the preferred codec been that P5 has converted MJPEGs into ?"

Guess P5 has finally realized how much they could have saved in server cost if only they had implemented down conversions back in 2006.

Kennon, three questions:
1) just to be clear: 1080i ntsc clips should be ProRes422?
Although the new "video requirements" say "we prefer HD footage in the photo-jpeg format." I assume that should say for progressive clips only.
2) can I upload two versions of a clip - ProRes and H264 - that you would link and give a buyer the option? It seems that if Pond5 converts a ProRes clip to H264 (at a buyers request, for example) there will be some quality loss during re-compression.
3) as someone suggested above, could there be an easy way to replace existing (motion jpeg) clips with ProRes clips? Especially if this helps with sales.
Finally, I came across this thread by chance (bored) while importing clips from my camera that I was going top upload as motion jpegs, which would have been rejected. Perhaps a mass email to all your contributors might prevent wasted time and energy.
Thanks

I am not a fan of ProRes. Also, AVI would be the PC equivalent, not h264. Maybe Neoscene AVI 422?
