Scott I think you are thinking of the scarlet...
I was going to get the Scarlet, in this thread I talked about it a long time ago:
RED SCARLET forum
A movie cameraman strongly advised me against it, I wasn't sure if he was exagerating.... I realize now he was probably exagerating, but he was trying to help me... because the uncompressed files would be too much for me, and he told me uncompressed video was over rated before I understood compression.

The Red One is still a dream. Lots of advertising and no product. Even the original specs are no longer valid. The broadcast Reds are out and even university photo/video departments are using the, They are more like the older huge cameras. Again lots of proprietary bits, pieces, lenses and computer software and capability at most home offices will just be short of desirable. Red is kinda like the the Jonas Brothers, lots of hype, not great but ok and the underage techies love them.

Re-reading Jason's comment I see what he is saying... the 2 cameras are in 2 different worlds.
You like the Jonas Brothers Don... creepy.

For anyone who has between $37,000.00 up $120,000.00 can buy a Red One. But one thing it's not a camera for stock footage. It's a camera for those doing highend commercials and film. I was at a company called Firmwave this past Thursday and have seen the camera and it sure isn't a toy a lot of us could ever afford.

Well back when I was considering the Scarlet it was originally priced a 3 grand....which wasn't too bad.
The cameraman advised me against them because he thought they were way over priced for what they provide.... He told me uncompressed footage was not a good thing but it was a marketing thing.

You can always compress uncompressed... but the other way around doesn't work so well :-P.

Yeah but why would you want uncompressed footage? There are only a few instances where I need it. All DVDs are mpeg-2, BlueRay is AVCHD.... even CGI for movies is JPEG2000 and quality is lost on 35mm film when you make IN and IP prints......so... compression is good enough for Hollywood, but its not good enough for some stock people...?
And actually you can decompress footage, that is re-establish color data in areas where it was lost. Drag a movie into After Effects and render it out as a uncompressed AVI, of course you still have compression artifacts, but those artifacts are designed to look good at a reasonable distance.
Im still waiting for that link to a stock site that sells uncompressed footage.

I don't think so.
I just read the specs on shooting at 1080x1920. It shoots at a frame rate of 20fps.
Where did they come up with that?? The video will be very choppy.
I guess they don't want to kill 5d sales.
