GoPro 5 Camera Only Discussion

Been shooting with the new GoPro 5 Black today and here is my first impressions.

It uses the new USB-C connector so another cord to carry around.

The covers for the USB as well as the battery and Micro SD card are very difficult to open. I worry about breaking them. Not a good design. They needed to make them water proof but they are very child proof and almost adult proof.

I recharges it using the USB and a car charger. The battery charges pretty quickly.

The 4K shooting is in WIDE only. Not good. It gives a very big fish look. Why can't they do medium view at least as an option like the lower priced camera in the line? Bad ... bad ... bad!

The case gets quite warm while shooting. Very likely could be some heat issues coming up about it.

The touch screen is bright and easy to see. Makes selction of option so much easier than any past GoPro cameras.

Will get some clips processed and see how they look on the big screen tonight.

Pros and Cons so far. Leaning towards being a better camera than any of the past ones.

Ok, so when connecting the USB-C cable to camera and computer to look at or transfer photos and video it opens the proprietary GoPro app. I hate company apps!!!!!!

When looking at the HERO5 BLACK directory in file manager it shows an MTF Client Disk Volume but will not show what is in it. I'll try using an SC card reader and see what happens.

Using the GoPro App is not friendly!!!!!

Using a card reader it shows all the files ;)

GoPro desktop App fails and crashes first time trying to import files with it.

GoPro impressing me.

4K wide is far far far too wide and fish eyed. Possibly ok for extreme sports outdoors nature only.

Does it use the same batteries as the 4?

Any improvement on the image quality or simply a body redesign? From what I could tell there was no improvement with the image or other video features.

I'd be impressed if it was at least as good as Hero4 ... that is, is there not a medium? That's strange. Plus, the stabilization only works in HD/2.7K? Can you confirm?

Funny, as Garmin goes 4K, and ADDS waterproof case, but has stabilization in 4K .... https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/action-cameras/virb-ultra-30/prod522869.html

No, Garmin does not:
"Image stabilization applies only up to 1080/60fps"

Good catch ... I just found that too ... man this industry is full of "gotchas" ... as in, if you think you will be happy, just look harder for the fine print ..

On camera menu says "Video Stabilization Temporarily disabled Not available for 4K or over 60 fps" So no stab in 4K - BAD!!

Auto Low Light Not available for 30 fps or lower - BAD!

Not sure on battery, I upgraded from GoPro 3

Quality is similar to a smart phone and don't see it an better. 60 bit rate. I do not believe it's as good as Sony RX-10 II or AX-100 and definitely more grainy and loss of detail to 1DX as expected.

I really like the lcd screen and menu touch screen.

Quik GoPro desktop crashes everytime. They blame it on Dell computers. I followed intructions and still crashes.

Absolutely HATE the wide screen only in 4K. Fish eye almost looks like about 170 degree view.

First night of using so hopefull manual settings will improve look. It's still cheaper than the GoPro 4 Black.
