Searching is frustrating!

Hi there,
I am a producer/writer and I've been searching for footage on P5 for the past few weeks for various projects. The search function has now changed to include "model release"... and unless you deselect that, your search does not pull up footage that you know is there!
For example, I was searching for footage a few weeks ago, saw it and came back to find it or something similar yesterday but it took me ages to find it because the "model release" button is defaulted to being switched on. So obviously wildlife and landscape shots will not come up in any search you do.
I now know to switch it off, but you might have a few frustrated researchers leave your site because it's defaulted on.
Regards.

Not good, the only default should be "adult" and even then a big warning should flash telling the searcher that it is selected prior to allowing the search to continue. Model released products are a minority here.

I wonder if after you uncheck the model release box it stays that way?
I say that because when I go to the search box, mine is defaulted to unchecked.
Actually that was the only thing unchecked.
Maybe everything should be unchecked except filter explicit so you can just quickly check exactly what you're looking for.

P5 listen to "bjfoxx" . Since the photo began to be available, searching for videos is such a big hassle. Many of my videos just vanish when making searches.

A simple test: search for Puerto Rico (Video-HD-PAL-NTSC-Multimedia) and in default mode 1301 files show up; change to number of views and 1800 files show up...a difference of 500 files. None of my approved recent files with keyword Puerto Rico appear.

@bjfoxx Far as we can tell the search function doesn't default to model release automatically - it might be something that's defaulted in your browser, which you should be able to fix by clearing your cache. Has anyone else noticed this?

In any case, we have been tweaking our search function quite a bit lately, and as we continue populating our photo database there may be a few issues - such as the search results discrepancies Luxor pointed out. We're fixing a lot of things "under the hood" at the moment, so as we continue there may be some quirks in the search results. Please let us know when you notice something odd.

I can back up what Jake says - for me Model Release is always unchecked and everything else is checked when I go into the Search box. If I check MR, do a search, and then I log off and back on again MR is defaulted to unchecked.

In case it's relevant, using Firefox 3.6.16 under XP 5.1 SP3

I've found nothing wrong with search results and the model release is unchecked.

@luxorpyramid the difference of 500 in your search is due to the number of pages searched for using Puerto Rico which has nothing to do with the number of clips on line. Think about it. In fact go back and look again as it said PAGE VIEWS not views

i`ve got model release unchecked always i visit pond, but i found another bug in search results
try to search "animal"
on the second page (100 clips per page) you will have most of the clips that don`t have animals, this clips have Animated, animation or something with "anim" in keywords / description
this is realy big mistake, i was talking about this in other thread when i search for hamburger i`ve got result with shots of city of Hamburg
Please fix this, this could be very frustrating when you search for something and got very weird search results.

@jason,
Hi Jason,

From my point of view, searches began to act funny when P5 began to offer photos. I upload on a daily basis. Maybe you are not affected but I am. To check if my approve clips are online and appear in searches, I search for Puerto Rico in "date uploaded mode". These are only some of my recent clips that are missing: 2361774, 2325061, 2324208, 2315308, 2314343, 2281642, 2280215, 2270429, 2233407, 2265536, 2258318, 2257666, 2228712, 2227333, 2189435, 2186607, 2186607, 2184938, 2079205, 2077351, 2059478, 2052622, etc, etc, etc.

So for me there is big problem that I hope will be solved when P5 finishes uploading the several million photos left from the other company.

As of now the only way a client can see or have access to my full portfolio is visiting my artist page but not through searches.

and yes...searching is frustating...even more when you cannot find your own work!

It's nice to use partial word spelling in case either the buyer or seller "mispells" a keyword. Motion_Poland is absolutely right. When the search results are based on partial words it appears to be a very bad spam problem. The accuracy of finding more expensive (and profitable) video is really important. A video sale makes both the seller as well as P5 a lot more money. 50% of $60 is a lot better than 50% or less of a $5 photo sale. It's good to have both. The spam and search problems have needed work long before the photos showed up. I know the P5 Team also knows the importance of eliminating spam and increasing accuracy of search results.
