Which video camera to get?

I have DSLRs already but I want a video camera also. I have been looking at the Canon XF100 but I still haven't made my mind up yet. Image quality is probably the number one factor, no tapes and I also would like to do time lapse in camera. Audio, fast AF, long zoom are not terribly important. What camera in this price range would you recommend and if you can please tell my why.

I would get the xf300, but not sure it has a time lapse mode. It is the best broadcast low price camera out there right now to my knowledge. The XF100 and series have only one image sensor, and that reportedly has a real effect on quality.

@melann411

While a few camcorder manufactures offer interval (time lapse) recording there only a few that offer single frame time lapse. You have a canon SLR that can do single frame time lapse at a much higher resolution than a camcorder why not put it to use.

Sony has a few that do it. my fx1000 had it, and my fs700 has it.

Scott the fx1000 doesn't offer single frame it's more like 6 to 8 frames. Nor can it produce a 4K frame which his DSLR can.

4K isn't a time lapse requirement.
You can do 1 frame per second on it. I think you could even drag it out to what you wanted.

If he has a dslr already he can just buy an intervelometer, but if he wants a video camera with time lapse ability (which is what he asked for in his original posting) that is something totally different.

This clip was shot with the xf100 in timelapse mode, says 1 frame per second http://vimeo.com/41582039

Scott did you bother to really read my comment? Re-read the first sentence again.

"While a few camcorder manufactures offer interval (time lapse) recording there only a few that offer SINGLE FRAME time lapse."

I have time lapse clips from a hero2 at one second that looks better then that vimeo clip because they were shot as single frame. It's to bad that they didn't shoot that time lapse with the 550D instead XF100 as it would have looked so much better and quicker to edit.

He doesn't even have to buy an intervalometer :) If you have canon dslr simply install magic lantern hack and enjoy it all for free.

You will need to contact a Canon XF100 owner about the time lapse feature.

Sure seems to be conversations within threads being deleted a lot lately. I thought there was something about Panasonic being the only one capable.

As well as intervalometer , the Triggertrap smart phone app and cable will control the camera in the same way. Can change all settings, and full shutter control with it.
