Uploading via ftp keeps failing, connection cutting out?
Anyone else having the same thing, or is it just a problem at my end?

This is a problem some users have from time to time. I have asked about it on the mail list for the ftp server program and the closest idea of its cause is that a firewall or a router assumes old connections to be down. If you have a router (like dlink 604) to share a broadband the router must keep track of all connections.

With ftp you start a new connection per file transfer and keep one line for sending commands (like list files and such). According to the logs that connection has died.

Are there others having this problem? Are there others not having this problem?

I'll investigate some more.

Hi!

I just did test upload without any problems. I use FileZilla as FTPclient.

I used to have this kind of problems years ago. It was the modem/router that did not keep track of passive FTP connections.

My solution was a fetchmail job that was looking for mail every minute. Kept the connection alive no matter what (up to 24 hours - after that the provider cut the connection anyway).

So, basicly I assume you need something to keep the connection alive. Set your mail programm to check every minute or run a repeating ping or something other low traffic stuff.

Ah, update: I'm having the same type of problem now. And my internet connection does NOT hang up.

Still no joy. FTP keeps hanging up after a while. The internet connections keeps alive without problems. Even trying to resume the upload doesn't seem to work. Tried both, active and passive FTP, but it made no difference. It's kind of strange because I've used the very same FTP programm (WS_FTP), router and connection for years and never had a problem before - including uploads of more than 2GB to this site. Now it tends to stop around 32MB.

Same here, been trying all day, can upload to other sites without any problems, using the same ftp program (Core ftp).

Been using it since day 1 here and it has been fine,

I've done some network traces and it seems like the server is shutting down the connections (TCP RST should anyone be interested). I don't know why but I'm looking into it.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The Java uploader should work as normal.

Completely forgot about the Java uploader... Thanks. :)

The Java uploader crashes on my computer. Not having problems with Java apps on any other sites, so I'm not sure what it is.

I use CuteFTP Pro and for some reason it does not recognize when a file has been successfully uploaded and tries to re-upload it. The result is that I get 10 or 12 copies of the same clips in the clipbin and I have to delete the duplicates.

I just figured it was because the software on your side was moving the file out of the folder as soon as it finished and CuteFTP didn't see the file listed, so tried to upload again.

I'm gonna try using the FTP command line instead and see if that fixes the problem.
