Just got my DJI Osmo

So I just got my Osmo on Friday and I've been shooting with it this weekend. I think this is going to be an amazing tool for shooting stock, its so small and compact that you can have it on you in almost any situation and with the 20mm equivalent lens you can actually get pretty great shots - especially with the ability to crop in on the 4K footage to get an even closer frame on things.
I did a test with it if anyone wants to see - https://youtu.be/dXAdRthVMrc
I highly recommend this camera so far.

Congrats. How is it to use? Can it be fired up in motion .. in other words, does it need to be stable and still to initialize? Or does it just work?
Having two X3 cameras, I can't help but wonder if you are crazy ... but respectfully, I know you must be comparing it to its utility ... right? (meaning no one would expect it to be a RED on a stick)
I did get my X5 cam in (used, modified, with OLPF removed) and I can say with verity that it is a ton better than the X3 ... same codec though. But lots more detail, less chunky macro blocking somehow, less noise/blur.
Unless! (And this is why I bother to write) Unless they changed a few little details of the X3 for the Osmo to make it a palatable image ... what say you?
Also: Any word on whether it is worth springing for an extra battery? What's the real duration? As my order has not shipped, I could add that.

I like it so far. It's by no means a RED on a stick haha. I have no prior experience with X3 cameras and I definitely know what you're saying about chunky macro blocking, I've noticed it right away, and its the same thing on the DJI phantom camera.
I'm actually working on a youtube video right now talking about how the DJI Osmo is a very cool piece of equipment but that it does not replace a cinema camera and full sized gimbal by any means. This is a great pocket camera that you can use in tight situations, or situations where you need to be discreet and can't walk around with an Epic on a Ronin.
For me this camera more or less replaces a GoPro.
And as far as X3 vs X5 cameras go - I've never shot with an X5 - but I'm not impressed by them either. They may be better than an X3 but they're still inferior to a proper DSLR or cinema camera, AND as far as I can tell the gimbal itself won't support any X5 lenses that aren't wide angles anyways. So what's the point? Clients and stock buyers can barely tell the difference between iPhone footage and RED footage anyways, content is king 90% of the time. So for $650 USD I'm looking forward to making it my go to travel camera.
It seems to power up and go during movement, no problem.

oh and as for battery life - definitely pick up a spare. I haven't really measured my time yet but i'm guessing it'll last about an hour.

Good to watch your first hand review. Thanks..
The video is not stabilized and straight out from the camera. Amazing...

Ah ... thanks for that on the battery. Glad you get my humor/sarcasm and don't take offense at my clumsy writing. I agree ... definitely better than GoPro, (although some Hero 4 stuff looks better except for the distortion) and I sure wish I had Osmo today in the forest with the big porcupine .... instead we get handheld X70 shots of porcupine butt, damn.

I just got my X5 going better after an update .. and worked on the lens calibration thing (failed because I don't have any targets 150 meters away) I can't fly yet as I don't have the proper anti vibration plate, but I can say it's definitely narrower fov than the X3 .. this being the DJI 15mm. Focus is touchy as hell at f5.6 ( a case for the X3 ... no worries there) but the main thing is the low bitrate codec as usual rearing its head in fast panning (I was carrying the I1 around by hand in dusk light, acting like handheld gimbal). Pretty good though. Remember mine does have the OLPF removed by the previous owner, which made things tons sharper/detailed. Gimbal can be easily balanced for heavier lenses by adding weight to the back with putty. (up to a point)

Do you know if the Osmo will be able to handle the DJI Zenmuse X5R RAW Camera, or can it only use the smaller X3 camera?
Nevermind. I see on the Osmo website both X3 and X5 cameras are supported, with the larger X5 cameras requiring an adapter plate.

I have a handy photo (terrible, but just for kicks) to show the X3 and X5 side by side. Let me know if you want it. Pretty different beasts! X5 gets hotter, is heavier a lot ... so will use battery faster, methinks.
