HD 1080 vs HDV 1080i

Telekenisis will come next. I wonder what resolution that will be in. :) Funny thing, the eye can only pick up so much in any case. I know, this may not have much to do with anything here, but I thought i would mention it just for fun.

vadervideo,

While it is true that the eye can only pick up so much, progressive is by far better than interlace when it comes sharpness and detail.

hummmmmmmmmmm. not the interlace versus progressive which is better game again ;)

Don, The discussion had to do with how HDTV's upconvert 1080i to 1080p and nothing to do with camera formats.
vadervideo 6 Aug 2008 17:53
I agree, 1080i or p do put out a very crisp picture. The upconversion in any case seems to be best on LCD type displays. (Plasma seems a bit slow and runs hot.) But I have noticed some differences between different brands of HDTV's - subtle but they are there, and perhaps that has to do exactly with how the specific TV brand interpolates the signal. On another note, what is really neat, you can get a 2+ Mega Pixel still shot out of any frame when shooting with HD - heck, that was a top of the line digital camera only a few years ago. This comes in real handy when shooting lightning for example or when you want to disect anything that happens really fast.

There is one more thing I wish to point out reg i vs p - I shoot a lot of lightning. I have found that converting such footage to progressive makes for better footage. If I leave it in interlaced mode (speaking HDV only) it looks like striped garbage. The reason for this is because of the obvious speed of recording vs. the speed of a bolt. The longest bolt I have recorded (multi strike on the same path) was 27 frames. Hence, still less than a second! There are things or events that may just require progressive - all the time and no matter what.

I will arm wrestle De-interlaced footage and see who really wins.

vadervideo,

One my last career moves in over 40 some years was as a television repair technician for over 20 years. I've gone from tubes through all forms of solid state. For more pro's and con's read this site www.answers.com/topic/interlace.

While it is true larger 40" and up sets are 1080P while under 40" are 720p and there are differences between brands. My choice is Sharp Aquos no matter what size.

As for cameras if I could afford one would be Canon XH-A1 because of it's features over Sony with the exception of Sony EX-3 which beats them all.

I thought Red beats them all...

ionescu,
Go to sony .com and key in EX-1 in the search field and check it out as the EX-3 is not out yet.
