What to do to increase views and sales on pond5?

Brennan, I too would like to know where you received that piece of news. This from a guy that has 24 items on this site you seem to have the inside scoop.....
I would refrain from making up things to get a rise out of people.

Don't worry gang, Pond5 does not play favorites like that. I see this suggested from time to time, often by users who are experiencing a drop in their sales, but it's not true. And I think I even know the source of the misunderstanding. Sometimes users write in to customer service to ask what they can do to improve their sales, and one of the things we always say is, "Upload more material." We say that because having more material online means you have more opportunities for a sale. The search algorithm doesn't favor those sellers, it's just a numbers thing. More files on-line equates to more chances for a sale.

I know sales are still down, and we're still in the summer slow period. But we're still working hard on improving the site and we fell confident that things will begin picking up soon. We're all in this together, don't think that Pond5 views it any other way. We only make money when you make money.

Thanks for the update (although Pond5 will still make much money while contributers make small amounts or none at all, but such is crowd sourcing).

But it would be awesome if stock sellers would become more creative in competition with other such sellers (like via valuing better the work of their contributers), if the same contributers have the same files everywhere out of desperation, almost only lower price will be there to compete. This strategy does work for the crowd sourcer though.

(btw., not really realted, but possibility to offer packages would be useful like on Envato)

Yes, now adays it often helps to have a large catalog of music with various genres given the ever expanding size of music libraries now adays, but people tend to misinterpret that libraries like p5 "favor" large catalog sellers, which isnt the truth. as jonathan stated it simply means your more likely to land a sale simply because you have more content in the market place and a higher chance of someone hearing& licensing one of your tracks. as i said before im sure this is just a summer slump and hopefully sales pickup again soon,

the point is, statistically, if all contributors start to upload more files, the distribution stays the same, until one will upload much more than in the past ... LOL

Maybe its really just a summer slump and we should focus more on the music itself ;)

i know there is a flaw in the logic of the last post, but i can't concentrate to find it.
for me it's clear: if i have 10 clips, i can't expect to have the same sales as one with 10000 clips.
it doesnt get more obvious than that, and it points that indeed, from your (as a contributor)'s perspective,
having more clips does increase your sales.

the way you put it, seems you have some points, but there's something wrong in the way you thought it.

it's also like some designer looking for a job.
he knows photoshop. well, ok...good luck.
but someone comes along and he knows photoshop, indesign, illustrator, html/css/javascript/ajax, knows how to draw manually and has a degree in design. he has more to offer, and thus it's easier to find employers.
with clips, the same. if you have more to offer, it's easier to find buyers.
thatz how i see it.

Is it just one thing or a myriad of reasons a contributor can get more sales? Talk of keywords and descriptions get tossed around a bit. But I always thought by continually improving composition and production skills a contributor could have success.
