Premiere CC, AE CC, PJPEG Render Gamma issue?

vadervideo 10 Aug 2014 20:46
My second question is - which plug-ins are you using to do your corrections etc (aside from warp stabilizer)? That is most likely the issue. But list them out here anyway.

It doesn't matter - here's why: The problem is that the render result is different from what is on the preview screen.

Test 1: NO plugins - straight render to PJPEG Changes noted.

Test 2: With plugins (doesn't matter, but say Color Finesse, Warp Stabilizer, Neat Video, to name the most commonly used)

Same results either way. Again, rendering to h.264 does NOT exhibit this problem.

Recommend: Render a file to PJPEG. Import that file as a layer under the comp you just rendered from. Switch off the top layer. What do you see?

Obviously, watch it in HD (the source was 4K, but it doesn't matter). If my connection was not so dodgy, I'd render and upload another of these, but I think I've done my part for now.

definite flicker. Also do you have image stabilization turned on. It looks like it is trying to stabilize a static scene so it is slightly searching. If CC is now causing this it is time to stay with CS6 for a while longer.
Mizamook 11 Aug 2014 03:45
Um, no, the flicker is caused by a layer on top of another layer, being turned on/off. That is me switching between tracks/layers. The difference between the two can be seen by two things:

1. The problem render track is brighter green (this is the issue in question)
2. The problem render track is denoted by the word "rendered" in the upper right corner

The other track (darker, without text) is how it looks before being rendered to PJPEG.

The motion is because it is a handheld shot.

And on a lark I tried switching project color depth around. Same result in 8 bit as 16 and 32 float.

Gene,

I saw that the last 1/3 of this rendered film you post was suddenly sharper! Is it true?
Mizamook 11 Aug 2014 06:25
I suspect that is because it is very short, and the HD suddenly kicked in. Play again without refreshing the page. I see nothing like that, but Youtube flies that way, it seems.
BunFest 11 Aug 2014 06:51
I watch it full screen and it is sharper towards to the end. When you don't see it in your PC screen it is OK.
Sorry to hear all these problems you experienced.
Mizamook 11 Aug 2014 06:57
Yep - it's a YouTube thing. Played it multiple times, for some reason it only gives full resolution at the last third. THis is not the case with the file.

At any rate, sharpness (detail/resolution) is not the issue. PLEASE check this for yourself. Render a clip as PJPEG from After Effects CC or Premiere CC.

Import that into the session from which you rendered.

Compare the rendered file and the original file either on different tracks/layers, or as a separate comp that you can swithc back and forth from?.

No FX required.

What do you see?

(I get the feeling I'm not communicating properly)
