Stupid rejection reasons...

Why can´t we get a clear newsletter with examples of what they want and what they will reject?

If they no longer take sporting events, or other things people should know.

They have made drastic changes, it would have been a lot easier if they had told us before that these changes are coming so we don´t waste our time uploading material they no longer want.

It seems like we are all in some trial and error experiment, trying to understand what the new reviewers will accept.

I wonder how hard it would be for them to do that, even they could just use their Twitter feed to post updates or in the forums, sure a lot of people are not happy with the changes and losing a lot of their income now after Pond 5 went in a different direction and also rejects almost everything BUT announcing all the changes would make things clear and those affected would know and can move on faster. It's the not knowing that creates a ton of frustration. It's bad news for some but I rather have gotten the bad news at the begging of March then over a period of two month, I think I've gotten the message now though.

In the case of them no longer accepting any sports video I can sort of see why, even though a few people playing ultimate frisbee in a park or running in a charity run or race in the streets doesn't look like a major league sporting event, they probably want to err on the side of caution in case there is a sponsor or an athlete that sues, they probably don't want to take any chances. My vis of these light sports events has sold at a steady pace in the past and there is a ton of sports on the site but maybe they got legal advice telling them it doesn't matter if two dogs are playing frisbee in a park just say no to sports to be safe.

Curation has really picked up, one day and everything reviewed and returned not accepted, actually 13 files got in this time.....shots of police blocking a road but 100% returnage on a hackathon? I specifically shot that tech themed stuff because I searched and there wasn't much on the site, those events are hard to get into unless you are card carrying press.

Interesting.....figuring out what they will accept is like trying to understand cats. I'm....allergic to cats.

Didn´t they say, they want to give us a newsletter with examples what they now want and what they will reject? I am planning new shootings and would like to include what they need if possible.

@jcobalt, Yes they did and I have heard as of yesterday they are still working on writing it and eventually it will be released to us. The no sports rule appears to be very new so I suspect they are holding off on publishing that newsletter until they've all figured out the changes themselves. From their Twitter feed and blog I get the feeling they are going very high end art house and of course they seem to be interested in 360/vr.

I had a 99.9% rejection on a batch a couple of days ago but the 1 file they allowed in under the new higher standards was a shot that was clearly soft and I bumped the tripod/camera while shooting it, so much for higher standards then.

Bottom line is with a rejection rate like this it's basically like they are closed to new submissions for the time being unless it's extremely high end art or as they one reviewer wrote "makes us say wow!".

This was my most recent sale and proves that run of the mill stuff still sells not just this artsy stuff.

I emailed support about VR a few days ago and they didn't seem to have a clue about it.

Congrats on the high priced "ducks on a pond" clip! :)

"Congrats on the high priced "ducks on a pond" clip! :)"

Be quiet about this sale, your friend upstairs will price it at $10 as test shot for selling. WeatherNews`s Canadian Goose is definitely over-priced for one artist and under-priced for me. LOL

BTW I had 29 accepted and 2 rejected in my last batch ...
WeatherNews 11 May 2016 19:42
Sadly though those geese would not be accepted today unless they were some high class art geese or something the meet the new high standards they've set.

29 Accepted....wow! that's really good for these days here, btw....100% acceptance at the two other sites I'm on so that's positive but unfortunately this was the best performing site.

If that's what they are looking for that's not so bad, that potentially could fall into the hard news category, scary to watch actually.
cactii 11 May 2016 23:25
The point is this... They don't know what they're looking for until it's on their plate. Wasting time here complaining about rejections is time you're not spending working on new ideas. Rejections used to bug me - lately I'll say I have a lot more from both of the big boys - but I let this bounce off me and try and improve. Sometimes it's just trying new things... Like the artistic value in this shot (one of my latest approved videos)

It's a simple focus pull between an electrical pylon and a big coil of wire - a focus pull is usually not something that's accepted very often but this was an opportunity with how everything lined up for me that particular day.

That climb was actually so safe it's not even funny - I'm a technical guy so I know that with a huge amount of safety margin the engineers have calculated that the electricity will not jump the distance of the glass insulators - stay that far away from the line and everything is safe (about 1 meter).
