Premiere CC, AE CC, PJPEG Render Gamma issue?

Thanks so much for the report. Adobe has still not called back. They are flummoxed, or they think if they ignore it we will go away. So not true!

Gene, what is the incoming codec? I don't see these issues when I for example bring in a series of photos (CR2 - raw) and export as Pjpeg (90%) - however, on the super compression codec's (4K sony for example) I see it clearly. But you need to understand that pjpeg puts out far more data than what's coming in. The compression of the sony xavc is compressed about 93% - hence it throws lots of data out. Otherwise it would never be fast enough to write files to the various sd cards. Adobe products don't really do anything other than pass through the limited data back out to the new codec. The new codec tries to compensate and bring in or "create" data it needs to render. I would guess that this has only been noticeable since the advent of 4K (compressed that is). If it were 4K raw, it would most likely not happen. Keep in mind, these compression algorithms are still being built, experimented with and by no means are standardized other than what each manufacturer considers their own standard. The H.264 is also a super compressed codec. What do you expect? The manufactures are thinking along the lines of "good enough" in this case and not even thinking "perfect". There is a reason for example that Sony keeps releasing new LUTs every time you turn around. This is all still in its infancy stages. Personally I don't want to waste a lot of time "counting rivets" on such an issue. The differences to the average human are way to subtle to worry about, and by the time something of this nature goes into production and/or broadcast it will get stomped on even more so. Think broadcast specs. So is it really worth all the energy to worry about this? I don't think so.

Any codec commonly used so far, by me. That being, XAVC-S, PJPEG, AVCHD, in any resolution.

If you haven't check out the test with the solid color layers. That is not with any incoming codec. This is an output flaw. Rendering the same layer three times takes the colors from a dark orange to a deep red. It does not happen with h.264 or uncompressed avi, either. Just PJPEG.

We are not average humans. We are the Gods of Stock!

Gene,

"We are not average humans. We are the Gods of Stock!"

You made my day... Thanks..
That is the attitude from the human-unfriendly Northern temperature..

It's called humor (perhaps tinged with wry sarcasm). I really hope I don't have to rely on infantile emoticons to express that.
BunFest 20 Aug 2014 17:51
Infantile emoticons make Gods of Stock look young like babies..

If you've ever read any religious texts, seems all gods ARE babies, or at least infantile - probably to make themselves more like their creators.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Vader, why would Sony put out a picture perfect PJPEG render when Adobe can't? Why do reports trickling in about this indicate that earlier versions of AE and Premiere render properly to PJPEG? Why does it ONLY happen rendering ANYTHING from CC products to PJPEG and not to more or less compression codecs? WHY is this not alarming for people in this industry that use Adobe CC products to render to the industry standard PJPEG? Or is it that no-one is rendering to PJPEG anymore, it's no longer the standard, and I didn't get the memo?

I am the one hoping they create h264-like codes for 4K or 8K (for the future after 4K, perhaps about 2 years) . It save lot of HD space.. Where are those software engineers hiding?

Gene, there must be something else at play. You ask "WHY is this not alarming for people in this industry that use Adobe CC products to render to the industry standard PJPEG?" - most likely this is because they are finishing the goods to compressed codecs such as h.264. - I will next Tuesday when I meet with Adam Epstein (chief crazy man editor from SNL) talk to him about this and see what he says and if he has some experience along these lines. If anyone will notice such idiosyncrasies, it will be him. Stay tuned.

Vader

Although I don't have this problem, and would like to know why.
It is good to have you in our boat on this pond!! :)

ps.
