Description:
Eurypterid tracks in 400M year old rock. Location: Kalbarri Western Australia. Eurypterids were like giant scorpions more than a yard long. These footprints in what at the time (Silurian period) was seaside mud were made as the animal crawled ashore. The mud then hardened and became part of the Tumblagooda Sandstone deposits. Eurypterids are thought to be one of the first animals to crawl out of the sea onto a land that was just beginning to be colonised by plants.
