Description:
Myanmar is holding the second phase of its general elections on Sunday, called by the military junta that has been in power since the February 2021 coup. The elections are being held without the participation of pro-democracy opposition representatives, whose leaders have been imprisoned or exiled since the coup. Polling stations began receiving voters in over a hundred municipalities, including areas of the capital, Yangon, where independent media report low turnout and a peaceful development of the day's events, amid the ongoing armed conflict between the military, ethnic guerrillas, and pro-democracy groups.
