Unknown artist painted the Monument of the Soviet Red Army the colours of the Ukarine flag in Sofia, Bulgaria. After pro-European uprising in Ukraine and the removal of the president Viktor Yanukovych the statue of soviet soldiers was coloured in yellow and blue in support of Euromaidan protests in Kiev. This is not the first time the monument has been depicted. In the last few years unknown street artists transformed the Red Army Monument into US pop culture icons, including Superman, Capitan America and Ronald McDonald. It was also painted in pink as an anonymous commemoration of the Prague Spring invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Russia demanded an explanation of the “vandal incident”.
