Prores 4:2:2 versus PJPEG

Alright I broke down and purchased a plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to process in Prores 422 HQ. I saved the same 4K 28 second long file, both at 90%. The Prores was 2.89 GB and the PJPEG was 1.38 GB. The view is people, swimming pool, sky with good motion aspects.

When viewed at 100 -200% on a 4K monitor I cannot see any difference in quality between them. ON my initial view I really cannot see a reason to double the size of the file to submit in Prores HQ 422.

The data rate for Prores 422 was 888 mb/s
The data rate for the PJPEG was 423 mb/s

So what is it that other artists are seeing that makes the double upload time worth while? I'm sure I'm missing something.

P5 stated that they will sell4K as Prores. Does that mean all 4K uploaded as PJPEG will be converted to Prores to sell?

What say ye artists ... and P5?

Who knows. Perhaps at 4k the difference is too small to see. However, at HD P-JPEG is easily identifiable as inferior, on my workflow. Mileage may vary depending on driving habits.

It is difficult to get impression from a 4K monitor that has the same size in inches as an HD monitor.

I'm only uploading proRes now. If you have another codec that is 10 bit with billions of colors and didn't make larger file sizes I would use that but for now this is if for me.
Next month I'll receive that Shogun recorder to use on my C300 and GH4 which records ProRes.

I'm on the prores train... let's ride :-)

How big was that 28 sec file? Like 3.5 gigs? what's the limit here and SS?

2.89

Jake are ya doing Prores for HD also or just for 4K?

I'm doing ProRes 422 right now but I'll start using the HQ for my next batch.
It really wasn't that larger.

On downsize to Prores is that Windows explorer can't open or show a thumbnail of the clip. I'm using Win 8.1.

Im always using ProRes HQ 422 for uploading HD and 4K clips. Only my old clips were PJPEG.
