Refine keyword search?

mainstreammusic 14 Aug 2009 13:41
Hello!

I know that you have already posted something about "keywords" and the interpretation of keywords, with the example of adding a video to your string with related words.....

however that being said, from a "buyers" point of view, I think that unrelated clips that pop up during a search slows down the process to the point we could lose potential buyers, and NO one wants that.

Remember when search engines would bring up everything but what you're looking for, how frustrating and time consuming it was? My point exactly. Big boys like Google have worked hard to clear that up.

I recommend that the curator makes sure that only relative keywords are used to make this system work quickly and efficiently.

just a thought! -thanks

Amen to that....
Keyword spaming is a huge problem.

Agreed. I'd even be OK with slower review times if it meant the reviewers were reviewing the keywords thoroughly, too.

A contributor to "keyword spam", I think, is the template system here. I know when I upload a large batch of shots that are "similar," I use a template for all the shots. And more times than not, a word or two which applies to most of the shots may not apply to others in the same batch.

So, templates are a great time-saving feature, but it may inadvertently lead to a minor case of keyword spamming.

ODesigns, you make a good point about the templates contributing to the problem.

However, if the curator reviews and approves all uploaded footage, he or she should not approve any footage submitted using "keyword spaming", sounds simple enough to me. Use spaming, no approval, and delete footage, end of story.

If it takes too long to find what you're looking for, you'll go elsewhere like Artbeats......meaning potential lost revenue for us here on Pond5.

Thanks

Mainstreammusic, add your comments to this thread "What is your upload process?" inthe P5 artist only forum.

I'm all for sending a notice to all artists to clean up their clips and then start deleting clips that don't get cleaned up.

Holy Moly! I see that SeanP never found a keyword he didn't like. I have yet to see a single clip of his that doesn't have half the words in the english language. It's very disheartening.

LOL "I never found a keyword I didn't like"
Funny but not at the same time. keyword spaming is a huge problem.

Sure wish P5 cared about it and would do something...

I agree that the review process should include a review of keywords. If keyword spam is present allow the artist a week to correct before approval or deletion of clip. Don't be like SS where the footage is deleted and the submitter has to start over. I never re-submit, it's their loss.

Although a place that sounds like "IS" rejected some footage from me last week because of keyword issues. They didn't like footage of a farmer (me) picking fresh beans and squash from a garden and using keywords like; garden, you pick garden, diet, vegetarian, vegan, farmer. I thought they were pretty descriptive. Problem is we all have different ideas of what is pertinent.
