Canon rumors

This reminds me of JPG VS RAW conversations long ago on the shutterstock forums.

10 bit is nice, also having a larger mbps codec is great. There are a lot of things that go into compressing a photo/video, not just the codec. I look at my a7s vs my rx10 footage and you can definitely see the difference, both use the same codec also. The horse power of the processors seems to make a big difference.

I agree with you Don, sometimes it's overkill for stock. I'm editing some footage I shot with my fs700 in prores and the stuff kills my computer @4k. The lack of 4k sales doesn't make me extremely excited to keep producing this stuff and 'pay' for it myself right now, since no one is buying, yet. Or we hope it will pick up at least. Right now my a7s II footage exports a 15 sec clip in less than a minute, the prores stuff takes 4-5 more than that, and the RAW stuff takes me 20minutes for a 15 sec clip. VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME!!!!

4K is 4:2:2 8 bit MJPEG. They explain it as a separate jpeg image for each frame of the capture.

Then that might be a solid codec Don. But why MJPEG...

Nice review. I didn't know it had two cfast cards. But that goes back to why is it still 4.2.0 8 bit?
Cfast cards are usually used in cameras that record prores 4.2.2 (like the new Blackmagic 4.6k ursa mini)

Like Scott said about the JPG vs RAW and that is something that is near to my heart.

Is it over kill for stock? Probably for the bulk of the customers but just like RAW in photos, why not give the customer the best quality you can?
Suppose there is that one production company that needs to really heavily grade and do some power house SFX to the video and can't because it falls apart. That is one less customer that will come back.

When I bought the C300 it's still 8 bit but shoots 4.2.2 and that was my first eye opener to cleaner green screen shots and easier to color grade before the highlights fell off the planet.

So personally I see some camera in my very near future that shoots 10bit 4.2.2 internally,

The review says it shoots 4:2:2 8 bit. I always thought MJPEG as taking two frames to have a complete frame. According to the Canon review they stated that each single frame is a complete frame. That is why you can take a 8 mp photo from any single frame. Sounds more like PJPEG so I dunno.

I also sends uncompressed to external recorder. Can't find what the uncompressed is exactly.

It has one CFast and one CF card. To record 4K it used the "expensive" CFast.

I think the Mjpeg and PhotoJpeg are the samething? is not ??
I don't know.

Same thing but I thought Photojpg is 4.2.0 8 bit could be wrong on that too.

Bottom line $6k for a camera that is 8 bit is high. 4.2.2 or not.
But don't listen to me. I'm still pissed at Canon for dropping the price of the C300 so damned much its not worth it to me to ever sell it.

A lot of us are not happy with Canon, long delays and high pricing. I have a closet full of old cameras that I should have sold long ago before they became dust collectors. Just think, in 100 years from now they will all be valuable as antiques.

That's very true.
