A Canon 7D Killer?

ironstrike 27 Feb 2010 20:12
Ah thanks for the info Don, I wasnt aware of that. Thanks for the weather proof clarification Dave.

I knew this day would come, when cameras got so good the differences would be based mostly on personal preference. DSLRs are great. They will all kill Red I think, Im betting red will go out of business within the next 3 years.

Their plans for coming out with a "DSMC" (DSLR) camera are being passed up by canon. Especially now that http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/wp-content/uploads/primo.jpg is using them for real shots.

EDIT: Hold on just a second, just because Bloom doesnt think it should be in the rain doesnt mean it cant take it. lol. I mean has anyone actually have a t2 short out because of rain? I wouldnt take the 5d in the rain anyway. But Bloom hasn't actually tested it so I don't know about that.

Someone take their t2 out in a heavy rain and get back with us on what happens. Last year I was reading a story about a photo expedition to Antarctica. Many cameras failed due to cold and moisture. A few only took a single camera and they were out of luck. The cameras that were failing were also some of the better pro level ones.

I know companies actually do stress testing experiments on their own equipment. I bet there is a report for that kind of thing somewhere.

I saw this thing about Dell where they throw coffee on laptops, and they drop them down stairs to see where the weakest spots were on the frame. I don't know what throwing coffee on a laptop can tell you about a laptops preformance but whatever.

Who cares how well it does in rain? Are you guys running around out in a rain storm? What the hell is wrong with you all!
Seriously though, for $800 I wouldn't expect it to. I don't think my HV30 is going to hold up in a snow/rain storm...so why would this?

The point is Bloom is just speculating anyway, its not like he's a camera engineer.

I think the issue is more (for me) with how well a camera does in moisture. Like if I was in the rainforest, where its humid or something, and it constantly drizzles rain. I don't really care so much about rain, but I did take my 5d to the desert for about 2 week. I was outside camping and it gets hot in the day and freezing at night.

There are way too many Phillip Bloom fanboys. Who the hell was this guy prior to making that first 5D demo reel? I have never heard of him.. not that it really means anything who I know of, because I don't know many professionals :-). I do know one: Jake Hellbach.

I took Jake out on the rain once.... (shudder), I'll never do that again...

So far the only thing that I have found an issue on my T2i is that adobe needs to do a camera raw update. The canon software seems to do the job for now on stills. In regards to video, I will be seeing how it performs today as we are having torrent rain since late last night. That is if this frickin' flu lets me out. :)

And this is how Dave left me........ a shattered man

Well footage of the rain is a true test of the quality of the compression process. The 5d does less compression when it needs it, and more when it doesnt hurt.

I would think the t2 should be similiar?. Thats a good thing to test.

Thats a cool clip Jake.
BTW you just had the 69th post....nice.
