Bought a Sony PMW-X70, with 4K upgrade. Looks good! Lots better than the AX100 ... getting to know this camera will be fun. Soon I will add an Edelkrone slider to my arsenal, largely for its portability, so that I don't have to shoose between a tripod OR a slider when hiking .... the Cineslider is cool, but a bit heavy for a lot of work, and can't carry a tripod too, so having the smaller Edelkrone on my tripod will be a great compromise.

Here are a few video sequences using video from last year accompanied by music composed last winter:

Epoch - the Fading using media in this folder: Ice and Winter 2014/15

Elven Lament - Steaming Chilkat River Scenics Media used: Dreamy Steamy Magical Winter

I really hope someone notices this composition!

Update: June 2015

I'm leaving the text below as it is mostly still applicable. However, one change is that I am no longer constantly retaining my original footage ... it's just too much. I'm not aggressively deleting stuff, but for instance in the case where I have a 4K RAW sequence, the original footage taking up most of a terabyte, I generally make my clip, then delete the original source. Shooting with the FS700 4K RAW via Odyssey 7Q+ is amazing, but very hard to keep up with! Also, new cameras include the Sony AX100, shooting UHD 100mbit/s, and Inspire 1 quadcopter (UHD) and Matrix E quadcopter (currently HD but will be 4K soon I hope) - If I can get it repaired, my RX100m3 shoots pretty nice HD (XAVC-S 50mbit/s) and is very handy, but, sadly, I recently found out that it doesn't float, and it's not waterproof! Hmmm.

In other "news" my internet connection is expensive and slow, so I don't upload much like I used to, but submit files in batches via HDD. So you'll see my collection growing in fits and starts.

I'm recording more music, but slowly, and more in the winter than warmer months. My virtual instrument collection has gown considerably, and I've many projects under way. I still play cello, guitar, flute, etc., and recently acquired a pair of duduks!

As always, if you need something, or a different version of something, don't hesitate to ask! I'm also not averse to sending you to another artist if I believe they have what you need or theirs is more suited to your project than mine.

"Shoot first, ask questions (or forgiveness) later!"

That means a lot of things to me - mainly that I've learned that to "get the shot" I need to be shooting, so shooting is what I do. The questions I ask later usually consist of queries to myself, but sometimes are to others, requesting a model release, or for forgiveness after making people (like gun shop owners!) nervous.

Primarily, I shoot nature: Birds & beasts, water, mountains, clouds, timelapses, scenery, etc. Planes, trains and automobiles, and not just a few boats also catch my eye. Sometimes people cross my path, but in general I leave the people shots to those professionals who specialize in such.

I frequently shoot and retain more of the footage than shown in my portfolio - if you are needing more of anything in particular, please contact me! I also take requests. Residing in Alaska has a few drawbacks, but the perks are great - overwhelming scenery, dynamic lifestyles, and voracious predators to keep us on our toes.

Increasing quality of production is an ongoing effort, and as my experience, knowledge, and quality of gear increase, so too shall the quality of my clips. I shoot primarily in 30 fps progressive - no shooting interlaced for me! My FS700 shoots 60P, so that's the mode in which I normally shoot, unless using the Z5U or V1U, which is pretty rare these days. I still render at 30fps, unless there is a lot of motion.

If you should purchase any of my clips, and have a moment, I would absolutely LOVE to hear how you used them - not only to satisfy my unabashed curiosity, but to learn from the information so as to improve the productivity of my efforts.

Thanks for reading- please enjoy the increasing number of clips I have here on Pond5 - check back frequently for new ones!
