Misc. Suggestions

Hey guys, I'd like to offer a few misc. suggestions.
1. Can a "search within results" feature be added to really narrow the search results?
2. Also a keyword search within a particular artists collection would be nice too. Search by producer.
3. I am off and on the Pond5 site several times throughout the day and notice that the site is constantly logging me out when I've been gone a relatively short time. Once logged in it would be great to stay logged in until the browswer is closed or I choose to log out.
4. A short cut way for artists to get to their own artists page from their "MyPond" page
Thanks so much!
Bryan

About point 3: I noticed this happens when your internet connection hangs up. Your IP gives you a different IP and then you're logged out.
I actually like this extra savety feature, but I understand not everyone does.
About point 4: Yes please. I only now noticed that we HAVE such a thing. Had to check out what you were talking about. ;-)

Another addition, if I may:
5: Please only display one of any group of associated clips.
6: Could someone please check what else that page is loading. It keeps on loading and loading and loadning. Kind of like it was trying to load all thumbnails for all of my 500+ clips.

Hi,
1. Could you please elaborate on this? It does narrow the search results? search for
dog
...and then...
bringing?
2. You can search by artist:
artist:crackerclips
...by several artists...
artist:crackerclips:shedli
...exclude artist from a bin...
clipbin:26 !artist:shedli
etc.
3. This is a bug. the login should survive at least half an hour of idle. Should this be increased a bit? Is it significantly less than ½-1 hour for you? What brower+OS do you use?
4. Ok, the username in Hi, username is clickable now.
5,6. It is indeed loading all the thumbs. We're about to fix this very soon.
Regarding yesterdays suggestions, it is now possible to make a bin public. We should just test it a bit more on different browsers.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Marcus

Hi Marcus,
1. A buyer may search for dog. All the dog clips show up. Then think that they want to see if there are any clips of a dog "bringing". Rather than starting the search over most stock sites will have a drop down box underneath the search field which gives the option of starting a new search or searching within the results of the last search. This way someone searching can keep drilling down into the search results without starting the search over each time by re-typing all of the keywords. This feature becomes important when an intial search for "dog" returns hundreds or thousands of results rather than 50 for example. Am I making sense :) ?
2. Sorry, for some reason I did not realize you could use the search field to search for a particular artists...duh.
3. My login does survive for at least one-half hour. My preference would be for it to survive until I log out. Others may prefer it the way it is for security reasons. Not sure what the solution is.
4. Excellent!
Thanks,Bryan

1. Have you clicked on the gray "advanced search" bar in the top of the search results? This does what you ask for? I'm sorry if there is something I've missunderstood.
2. No, it's our fault. We should write something about the search engine... Perhaps click on a question mark on different pages to get a context aware help?
3. We could make this a setting in my_preferences or something. No problems.
4. Thanks!
Best regards,
Marcus

Hi Marcus, I have used the advanced search but it's not what I'm refering to. The only choice there is to start a new search and add filters. To use the dog search again as an example. A buyer has an idea that they want to use a clip of a dog so they punch in dog to the search field. Let's say that "dog" returns 2,000 clips. This is way more than the buyer wants to look through and decides to narrow the search by looking for a dog that's "bringing". Rather than starting a new search by re-typing "dog" and then adding "bringing" there could be an option to choose to search within the 2,0000 dog results and just type the word "bringing" in the search field. To continue with this example let's say searching within the original "dog" results for "bringing" nets 800 returns. Still too many for the buyer. So they decide to narrow their search by searching within the 800 clips by using the word "slipper." Maybe this returns only 10 clips and now the buyer can decide which dog bringing a slipper clip they want to use. If the buyer knew right from the start that they were looking for a "dog bringing slippers" that could have been put into the search engine directly but often times an idea evolves as the searching progresses and being able to "search within results" eliminates having to re-enter the search terms over and over again each time a new keyword is added. Again this will grow in importance as the Pond5 collection continues swell in size.
If you like I could email you a link directly to show you what I'm talking about?
Thanks,
Bryan

Hey Bryan,
Looks like you are getting to the advanced search by clicking the the link in the search box. You can also open up a contextual advanced search thing at the top of any search results page - https://www.pond5.com/index.php?page=search&p=0&no=24&bm=15&q=&sb=1&adv=1
Using that, you can do a "search within results" to narrow down your search.
We should probably make the advanced search functionality a little more visible - it's kind of hidden :)
We'll also be adding an artist field to the advanced search - for the moment, though, you can simply search for an artist's name in the search box.
There are some other refinements to the search interface in the works, which will make it a lot easier to narrow down results and find what you're looking for faster - which is becoming increasingly important as the collection grows.
BTW, your artist page is looking great! We'll be adding links to public clip bins there very soon.

Hiya Tom,
Aaaahhh yes. I was getting to the advanced search from the link under the search field. I see what you mean about the advanced search available on any results page. This is exactly what I was referring to. I had no idea that was there.
Thanks for the kind words about our artist page. There is a lot of functionality to work with there! Am I right to assume that the artist pages are search engine friendly?
Any updates or time tables on multiple clip sizing or the individually branded sites we talked about?

Hi Bryan,
Only the secret rites of the Freemansions is a better kept secret than how to use the pond5 search engine ;-)
We've had quite a lot of uploads recently, it's amazing the server hasn't been worse in performance considering its frequent processing of 300MB clips, usually about three parallell uploads and move of file to storage server.
We're right now testing the upload to another server to take stress of the main server, which should go live within a week/when wee feel it's stable. When that's done multiple sizing is next, because then we can run a hugh batch without killing the main server.
Best regards,
Marcus
