Unless there is a tracking code it will be difficult to determine if self promotion really helps individual sales. Will it help overall P5 ... yes I believe it will.

It may help if you have a lot of unique content. If you can become the number one producer for your region or subject, you could then advertise and bring buyers to your content here without fear of competition. If you have a lot of basic content, stuff that other producers offer, you may not benefit at all from bringing your buyers here because they are just as likely to pick content from your competition.

That is my two cents on the subject.

I've recently set up a Photoblog, where I put screen grabs examples of images I have available. At the bottom of each batch I post link to my portfolio. Early days, and I don't know if this helps, but at least it puts the message outside there.

Soooo, I stopped posting in "Just approved" or "just uploaded" ... sales have gone up. Stopped updating my blogs, Facebook and web pages .... sales went up. Great work P5!! Keep it up !! ;)

Got an inquiry today for some footage of mine. This is not stock on P5 or anywhere (I never did render the clips as stock) but it's funny that just two days ago I dug up that very same footage and was looking at it.

Through discourse, this company now knows of my portfolio, and has a renewed enthusiasm for P5.

Makes me think that regularly creating shorts for YouTube on a regular basis can lead to sales, or possibly work when the sales are down. I've thought that before, but today is an example of it actually working.

I use MainConcept AVC 720p. Sure they could steal it, but I hope they enjoy the Mizamook watermarks. When I'm really concerned, I make the watermarks more opaque and sometimes go so far as to shift their position over time.
