And the God of Stock Arrived.

Where is the inspiration ? Who is here to inspire us to excel. I know Jake has his Delores, but what do I have? A punk 26 year old kid running around with a camera strapped to his hand, trying to sneak in shots here and there.

Sometimes I feel really weird when taking videos of random things. We were at a riding stable this weekend and I was taking video of this metro park ranger as my parents were talking to him. The prob thought I was a 'special' kid, because I was taking shots that a normal camera enthusiast would not. What could be so interesting about the feet of a horse standing still :-). I still haven't figured it out, after watching the clip 20x . That is a joke, I am not a special kid.

Anyway, the point of this is 'where do you get your inspiration from?'. There is only one Delores, so come up with something else Don. Jogging nude on a beach does not count as inspiration, but more of a desperation.

You guys inspire me, somehow, someway, some strange way.

If I were a cynic, I'd say "cash inspires me".

However, since I do animations and not camera stock, I would have to say that mood and music are what inspire me. When I sit down at my computer to create something, what gets created is based on my mood at the time. The nuances of the piece are then determined by the music that I choose to listen to which matches my mood.

I have a list of over 400 animations I want to create printed and hanging on the wall next to my computer. I sit down, and I select something which matches my mood. I then select a playlist on my MP3 player which further fits my mood and I get to work. The tones, the lyrics, the story of the music determine the course I take and the end result.

Works the same way with my day job and it always seems I do my best work when I'm ticked off and/or I listen to Disney Show Tunes (the soundtracks for Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast really get my creative juices flowing for some reason).

sometimes i feel pretty weird taking shots of stuff too...like the other day there was no wind and I'm taking a shot of a daisy (that is totally still). so there i am trying to stay out of the shot, and having to blow really hard, (and accurately!) to make it look like there's a breeze happening.

glad no-one saw me...hey its one thing for a guy to have to explain why he's shooting daisies, its a whole other thing to have to explain why he's blowing on them.

btw what is this delores that Jake has? didn't michael j. fox drive one in back to the future?

sorry Jake - i see who Delores is now - i just read about her in another thread. its a lucky man, whose wife (i take it she's your wife?) asks waitresses to model for him. well done! :0)

"btw what is this delores that Jake has? didn't michael j. fox drive one in back to the future?"

Hahahah.... That's great.

How it the heck have I missed this thread.
No, Delores isn't a super car. She does have more guts then I do when it comes to walking up to strangers with a camera in one hand and model release in the other...LOL
Nope, not married but maybe one day. (That dosen't mean any of you guys have a shot, stay away)

Now to Scotts dilemma, or dementia..
Man, Scott, spoken like a true artist. You start looking at things differently then normal people with a point and shoot.

I get inspreation from anything, just looking at things around me gives me ideas. An example is I was reading my mail and it hit me about getting bills and paying them, the stress of all of that so I setup the camera and shot it.

I like closeups and macro, so your horse feet would be something I would shoot. Of course at the same time I'm thinking, would someone really buy this.
I'd shoot it anyway LOL and some of those things have sold.

If I were you, I'd get your dad to dress in a suit and be a business man, shoot that in different angles, props are great. Have him look at a computer monitor, talk on a phone that kind of stuff sells.
Lock down you camera on a tripod and the two of you get in the scene. Business people, father and son concepts. Different emotions, happy, sad, anger.

I have a dry erase board at home that I jot down ideas and notes on, sometimes after a vodka. Then I look at it and wonder what was I thinking...

Anyway, enough of my ramblings.

i agree with Jake, Scott. i checked out your dolly clips on vimeo, and you and your dad have a good 'presence'. dress him up in a suit, put one on yourself, and you could take turns hiring and firing each other (for example!)...

and dnavarrojr - i don't think its cynical to say that cash inspires you. fear of being poor is a little like a boot to the backside. it keeps me moving (for better or worse.)

Oh man orbitrob, that would be a great scene.
Scott's dad pointing his finger at Scott and yelling (I'm sure he's never done that before) , giving you the "pink slip" you walking out.
Or, it could be an age thing. You be the boss and fire him. The mind boggles.....

Then for another entire take on it, you or your dad in a dress...Umm, nevermind.

I used to be kind of self conscience of video taping stuff... but now I just don't care. Actually I tend to dress up more than other people when on shoots, (for the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_effect). If you wear formal clothing people let you get away with more, they assume you must know what you are doing, and that you are "official." Its kind of a trick Con artists use, if you dress nice it is much easier to gain access to places and gain the trust of others. lol now when people see me with a camera they think "oh hes some brilliant cameraman that sells stock all over the world" as opposed to "oh hes some 24 year old kid messing around with his camcorder."

the halo effect eh? thanks for that very interesting link ironstrike. time to invest in some new pants.
