UK buyer interested in clip..tech question:

hi P5'ers,

I have a buyer in the UK interested in one of my clips. Here's the clip - its a shot from the front of a subway train - shot NTSC DV at 720 x 480 resolution.

https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/127786127786

The customer is making an "HD music video" and tells me that the other clips he has gathered for the projected are either HD 720 or HD 1080.

He wants to know if he can use my clip in his project? (obviously the resolution cannot be improved) - but does anyone know if this is possible (esp. with the NTSC / PAL difference)..

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi Rob,
Are you looking for something to convert your NTSC to PAL?
If so this company has a converter they say doesn't take away any resolution.

It will also letterbox the video to 16:9 if you want.
I've been looking at some of the other products they have. Interesting site.

But maybe someone else will know if they can use it as is.

What is the final format of his project, and what is he editing in, and what is he outputting to? The NTSC format shouldn't really be an issue if he is finalizing in HD.

I think most edit systems will handle a digital clip regardless of resolution anymore. He will have to blur it, or scale it or something to deal with the pixelazation though.

Rob, I don't think there will be an issue if he has the software that can upscale the footage, and it will also depend on his final video resolution. It might look a little soft, but that clip is mostly motion, so it shouldn't be too realizable. Awesome clip by the way.

+ thanks mr. dapoopta for the compliment. I was questioned by the transit police soon after i took this shot, but somehow i managed to escape.

Hi guys, many thanks for your help here (and to you orbitrob), I'm the guy making the video. I'm using Camtasia Studio and there are several clips I'm assembling into a 4 minute video for a new single release.

For your interest, the song 'Bound for Heaven' has just been mastered by Pink Floyd's very own engineer Andy Jackson. Other session musicians include Ewan Vernal (ex Deacon Blue) and brass by Gregor Clark (Ex Pasadena's). It was actually written in the 1980's and recorded in Glasgow in the 1990's and being released in Jan 2009.

I guess the video could be described as 'experimental' at this stage and may even become revolutionary in that it is a low cost method of putting together a video using clips available for purchase online via the Pond5 platform.

So I'm hoping that it will generate some interest in the media. Thus, the clips that are featured could likely be a good advert / platform for your work.

Orbitrob's front of train clip will hopefully feature in the vid as will several others. I have narrowed it down to about 11 or 12 clips and most of them are in HD format. At the moment, the selection process involves simply using the previews of the clips, in order to get an idea of what works and what doesn't.

The problem is that as some of the clips are NTSC / PAL etc, and this seems to have the effect of narrowing the clips as compared to the HD clips.
The clips added up all amount to several hundred dollars, so I need to be sure about formats before finally purchase them all.

I think what I could do is put up a copy of what I have made up so far. to let you see the video (and also give you a sneak preview of the song as well as my idea for the vide), which I hope you will like, and if any of you then have any suggestions, then that would be tip top tippy!

Hi Allan,

Thanks for sharing details of your music video project. Sounds very cool. Its always interesting to see how our clips get used, out there, in the 'real world'.
If you are able to post a copy of what you've done 'so far' - we'll be more than happy to help and offer ideas.

Thanks again guys (Orbitrob, Jake, Dapoopta, Smokey),

I really appreciate your help and support. I just need to make some adjustments to get the video file into some kind of viewable format and then I'll post a link so you can see it.

It would be great to get your reaction and feedback as I can assure you that no-one else on the planet (other than one or two members of my close family) has seen this yet.

Many Thanks
Allan
