Dug through my archives and found this footage from a visit I made to the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor a few years ago. this is the first SD footage I've ever uploaded.

Now I understand that "glow" that you have. :) That must have been a bit precarious to shoot. How long were you actually near the plant?

We spent four hours inside the dead zone. No big deal - I have all the kids I need already.

Haha, sterile indeed. Is that area a known to still have high amounts of radiation?

There is still high radiation in the soil, but much of it has washed off the roads. So we stayed on pavement wherever possible. They said the radiation level was something like 40x what you would normally get in a year, about as much as a couple of chest x-rays.

I have some original footage from my previous life... Soviet classified footage... old 3/4" from the actual event... very scary and a little unsettling... most of the guys are certainly dead now...

@vadervideo I believe you can buy (touristic) excursions to a ghost town near Chernobyl

I worked with a musician known as Brokenkites that co-created a music video about Chernobyl. Our work was about the layered look of the flames that he liked most and had nothing to do with the ghost city that surrounds the abandoned plant. The people who went into that area had worn radiation detectors. They said they were always monitoring them to make sure they didn't stay too long.

I am sure that happened, but probably just after 4000 people were radiated to death.
I liked the expression "look of the flames that he liked most", sounds like Nero Caesar burning Rome while playing music.
