File association

Just found this out - so thought I'd pass it on for those wanting to associate their high priced HD with their fabulously higher priced 4K ;-)

First, Take all of the files you'd like associated, and send them in the following format:

Item:123456:123457:123458
Item:123459:123460:123461

Second, make sure to include your username in the email.

Third, send your request directly to support@pond5.com with the subject line: Associations Request.

good to know, I emailed Ryan and he forwarded the email on to customer support. . . and im still waiting.

Kinda frustrating that there is not an easier way to do this than sending emails.

Also do you have to give every clip keywords and descriptions, and if so do they just combine them?

the easiest way would be if they did it on their server and we didn't have to make multiple files.

p5, any update on the offering this to customers?

I think you do. As I understand it each clip is complete - they are simply associated rather than share keywords and descriptions.

they will probably not premake the different video sizes. when you buy a video from pond5, I am pretty sure that the file you download is a 100% exact copy of exactly what you uploaded. if they generated lower res versions, it would take up a lot more disk space, they would easily double their space usage for clips that might not sell.

one time I learned from associating clips. do it immediately. if a clip has sales and you associate it after it has some sales, it will drop from the rankings. I learned the hard way.

one site lets you buy a clip, and then they generate the lower res versions that you can download later once they are done spooling. forget which site it was. so they only have temporary lower res versions for videos that sold.

One reason why I rarely buy footage from Pond5 is because I can't usually get what I want in the size/encoding that I need for a project. The fact that, as a buyer, I can't utilize Pond5's server to re-encode purchases for me is a major deterrent to a lot of users, including my self.

It's a VERY EASY thing to code, so I have no idea why Pond5 hasn't done it.

Other agencies do the auto downsizing when the artists uploads so a buyer does not have to wait. Keeping a buyers waiting is not a good thing. Also other agencies also have different formats readily available. The biggest problem I see is the longer P5 waits to auto downsize 4K to HD the more duplication or inadvertent accidental deletion of the wrong HD files that become duplicates. For me unless I upload both 4K and HD I find it difficult to price my 4K at the higher prices they deserve. If 4K files are priced like SS I believe many buyers who would have bought the HD version will go to SS or other agencies to buy the downsized HD. A loss for P5 and the artists and 4K prices will continue to be held down here.

This has all been known for YEARS. I think they really don't give a crap. They're collecting a good salary, why spend money on anything new?

Downsizing requires gb...and gb costs??could it be the answer or am i wrong??maybe pond5 can offer lower price because of this ?

P5 is already because of mis-guided artist the lowest stock footage in the industry. Every other agency that is worth submitting to has raised prices, increased income and improved sales. Those artists that are making a "killing" in stock don't sell for low prices. Like I said I can't justify higher 4K pricing until HD are automatically made from the 4K submissions. All SS gets is my 4K, here at P5 it might not make sense with my limited bandwidth to submit both HD and 4K so I'm leaning more to HD at this time. So higher gb costs means lower selling price ... seems higher gb should result in higher sales pricing.
