4K downsize to HD

Over two months ago P5 in the suggestion area said they were working on the auto downsizing of 4K to HD. It also said they doubt that existing 4K would be downsized only new clips. This is troubling.
So how is this capability coming along?
If old clips will not be auto downsized then it really makes little sense to keep submitting 4K until after the capability is established. I don't think that is a good sales direction for either the artist or P5. 4K files are so large and take so much bandwidth I would rather wait with 4K until the upgrade .... if there really is an upgrade coming.
P5 we really need some communication. We are making business decisions with not enough information to make decisions. If SS and RS can do it and are successfully doing it, what is the problem here?
Thanks for the great work on sales ... just need communication so we can run our business better.

Good thoughts Don.
It doesn't make business sense to upload if they aren't going to downsize older clips until after the update is in place.

I think I posted something like this in 2008 or so. Still holds true:
"Soon" is defined as anywhere between "in 5 minutes" to "in 5 years".
For now I'm uploading HD and 4K. I don't build my business on vague promisses.

I have been choosing to downsize some of my 4k to 1080 just for here. But it is such a waste of time.
I agree on the "soon" thing.

Varius,
It took my Vermieter 10 years to change our old windows (whole building), so it is a German way. I hope American will be quicker. ;)
Don't they just have 60 millions fresh money and hiring more engineers.

Sure, we can hope. I certainly do hope they are working on it. But I won't base my business decisions on promises and hope.

unfortunately I believe I'm going back to uploading HD versions only. I have lots to upload and can get 4 times more online. Especially since the last word we got from P5 is all existing 4K will not be downsized to HD just new uploads.

Same like Varius, i won't wait forever, ....... and to be true, converting the edited 4k clip once more to HD is done very quick. Only the more than double upload time is a waste, but copy and paste description is also done quick.

To play devils advocate there are two issues to work out regarding resizing the current library of 4K footage. The trouble with processing existing 4K uploads to 1080p is that Pond5 would immediately be behind on process a whole lot of videos. They would have to convert all existing footage before resizing the new submissions. That could take a long time.
Also, once the old 4K videos have a 1080p version, what does Pond5 do with all the existing (now redundant) 1080p footage that has not been linked to it's 4k counterpart by the contributor? It would be up to each contributor to manually remove those extra 1080p videos.
It seems to me that there needs to be a temporary site feature to deal with this situation. To permanently link old sets of 4K and HD footage and also put old 4K footage that has no HD version in a queue to have an HD version processed.
It's quite a mess really and it's unfortunate that Pond5 didn't anticipate this problem because to fix it now is going to be messy.
That said, I think Pond5 is overdue for auto generating HD sizes of 4K footage.

It''s not like a curation process. Get a system dedicated to the conversion. It would make no economic sense for anyone to continue uploading 4K if conversion does not happen. The economic low hanging fruit would be lost if they expect artists to re-upload 4K.
We really just need an answer. The answers that were from two to six months ago should have an answer by now. We keep being told that new big improvements are almost ready yet if they were released are very much invisible to the eye.
Communication is key. It's not a secret advancement since both SS and RS have been doing it for a long time. If RS who almost went broke can update their web page, offer 4K and down convert as well as convert to different codex P5 should have no problem. P5 is most of our prime and most trusted agency but communication is the key to a partnership.
