Hiya everyone!
Just thought I would let you know that my mentor Aaron Davison is starting his 180 day music licensing challenge on July 6th, 2015.
http://www.180daymusiclicensingchallenge.com/#oid=1030_1
If register before June 22nd, you will receive some excellent free bonuses. The best one in my opinion is Gary Gray will master 2 of your songs for free! Also you will receive 3 bonus courses. All in all it's a $449 vaule, but you have to sign up before June 22nd, which is like 7 days away!
Give it some thought...it's completely worth it!
Nathan

Pond5 Musicians and Composers,
Little something I wrote up today! http://nathanluissteinke.com/the-180-day-music-licensing-challenge-part-i-of-iii -
This is not in the blog:
Aaron and Gary have been great to me! Really I believe they owe me more money and time then I owe them. I spent about $300.00 working with them and that was for the 60 Day Music Licensing course that Aaron had back in 2013.
So far, Aaron has paid me back by simply linking to some of his books and talking about his courses. Really I took the course for free at this point, and Gary has paid me $400.00 so far from winning the http://www.imlcontest.com. Not to mention he owes me $2500.00 worth of mastering time. Which...I plan on using as wisely as I can.
At this point I have had 5 full length conversations with Gary over the phone, something I never really expected. Each time I send Gary a track, he gives me insider knowledge...which I am sure most of you know but...things like...
- Parallel Compression
- Parallel Reverb
- How to mix properly
- Making tracks broadcast ready
- How to route instruments correctly...correct levels!
Gary's advice about Midi Strings was just brilliant!
In our last 1 hour consultation he told me..."There is no noise floor..."
I am just thrilled with my new knowledge. So it's been about a year and I know I am not releasing as much music as I want but what I am doing and have been doing ever since taking the 60 Day Music Licensing Challenge is just awesome.
EDIT: Just finishing up a film score for a 15 short film named, "Feral"...As soon as the director gives me the go ahead to send the final .wav to Gary, he is on board to master it. Shouldn't be more than two weeks from now.
More Edit: It will be the first time I had Music By: Nathan Steinke in the credits of any actual film. Very excited!
Anyhow, I just wanted to reach out to any of you that are in need of help and would like a chance to work with Gary Gray and Aaron Davison.
Having Gary work on two of your songs is just unreal. For free? Amazing. Then six months working with Aaron over the phone, e-mails, podcasts, facebook groups...
Ok, I have to get out of here, it was on my to do list and I hope you all have a great weekend!...Keep in mind MONDAY is the last day to work with Gary Gray for free and receive the 3 free bonus courses by Gary and Aaron.

Hi Nathan.
I looked at the 180 Day Music Licensing Challenge and Aaron seems like a very nice guy with a great deal of knowledge.
I got as far as expressing an interest and perhaps reserving a place but it turns out that is actually a request to buy that would have cost me $299.99 .
So at that point,I decided not too.
Just one small thing though that isn't obvious.
Regarding the telephone contact,I live in the UK and calls to the US are quite expensive.
Who pays for the calls?
Michael.

Hiya Michael,
Let me ask Aaron I am pretty sure he calls you. I believe there are 3, half hour phone consultations. He also has facebook groups and e-mail consultations. And yes at $299.99 it is quite a bit for pre-registering but I just got an e-mail from Aaron and if you sign up before June 22nd, he will knock $100 off the sign up fee. All you have to do is ask him about it.
I took Aaron's 60 day course in 2013 and paid $200.00. And there was no special bonus, no extra courses...I did work with Gary Gray but I paid him $100.00 dollars to master my track. Now since Gary and Aaron work together, Gary gave me a really good deal on mastering my track. Gary normally charges $250.00/hour for mixing and $250.00 to master a track.
Now remember if you sign-up for the 180 day class...Gary will master two songs for you for free...That is an excellent value. That's why I am so thrilled to even talk about this.
I am an at home producer, and I am self taught. I wandered for many many years trying to figure out the music business by myself...thinking I know things that I really don't. Essential I was wasting my time trying to figure it out.
I am currently writing some blogs about my experience with Aaron and Gary.

http://nathanluissteinke.com/the-180-day-music-licensing-challenge-part-ii-of-iii
Part III I am going to write tomorrow...but I did write a little about Gary Gray as well
http://nathanluissteinke.com/whats-it-like-working-with-gary-gray
One thing that I learned right away is the my music has yet to become something incredible. Being self taught I just know what I taught myself but working with Gary about sound design and mixing/mastering for the last year has been incredible.
He calls me, and he is the one that suggests it. So far he has been a great mentor and friend and I have learned so much.
After June 22nd this chance to work with Gary will be over. They both want to help you put your best foot forward when you submit your music to music supervisors for placements.
Tomorrow I am going to post the last part in this blog series and it will be about where I am now, my plans for the future and how I believe Aaron and Gary are the guys to know and help get me there.
http://www.sculptorofsound.com/ - This is Gary's main website.
http://imlcontest.com/ - Gary also runs the International Music Licensing Contest.
I understand a slight hesitation, I had it as well...at least sign up to both their newsletters. They are always having specials, package deals and free advice in their newsletters. I plan on sending both of them this forum post in about 2 mins.
Talk soon!

Hi Nathan.
Thanks very much for your reply.
I am very tempted to take up Aaron's offer and have now gone from 0% possibility to 99% probability and if at any point from day 1 to day 180 I feel I have benefitted significantly from the course I will add the $99.99.
RE the telephone calls,we can work something out, skpe maybe,I don't want Aaron to be out of pocket.
Bye for now,
Michael.

Morning Michael!
I e-mailed both Aaron and Gary your question regarding the telephone conversations. Yes I am pretty sure you could skype as well.
The "Challenge" is to place your songs within TV, Film, Radio and any other production and these placements pay pretty well. Start meeting music supervisors and get your name out there.
Today I am going to write my third installment of my experience from the 60 Day Challenge and what has happened to me since then. Which is why I have a cup of coffee and awake at 9 am on a Saturday...
I will be in touch shortly! Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Morning Michael and Pond5!
Thank you so much for the kind words Michael! Happy Father's Day to you all! Hope everyone has had a nice weekend so far. Woke up early to get my blog all situated.
http://nathanluissteinke.com/the-180-day-music-licensing-challenge-part-iii-of-iii
Quick Update: Just received word from the director of Feral that the underscore I have been working on for the last two months is a go and I am going to send the final mix to Gary Gray for mastering! So super excited! This will be my second professionally mastered track!
Michael I just received this from Gary:
Hi Nathan,
I know that Aaron uses Skype in place of a phone for international calls - that way it doesn't cost either party a dime.
Talk soon!
Gary

Afternoon everyone!
Aaron contacted me and he does indeed do Skype for international calls.
Today is the last day to pre register for Aaron Davison's http://www.180daymusiclicensingchallenge.com/#oid=1030_1.
The "challenge" is to place your best songs in TV, Film, Radio and Games and other media. Aaron is going to send you ONE daily lead to follow. Every day, you will be sending your best songs to top music publishers and supervisors.
If you sign up today, June 22nd 2015, Gary Gray will master 2 of your best songs free of charge. With a full critique, including 5 mastered versions. These two tracks you are going to shop for the next 180 days to 180 different music supervisors.
Now, I can't stress enough how important it is to right now go register with a PRO. I have done my part to bring awareness but being with a Performing Rights Organization and having your Writer and Publisher #'s is a big step. And it doesn't take that long. ASCAP registration is $35 for Writer and 35$ for Publisher, you need to have BOTH to receive 100% royalties. Now over at BMI they don't have a sign-up fee, but they do take a % of your royalties, albeit small. Oh and you only need to sign up with one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_rights_organisation
What blew my mind is that each and every one of you could be receiving royalties even though you are leasing "royalty-free", see you could be the Writer/Composer and Publisher.
Quick Story: A musician friend of mine that is doing quite well here at pond5 heard his music in a advertisement on TV. He e-mailed me asking how quickly he could sign up to a PRO and how fast he could register his song to receive royalties.
This is why I took Aaron's course in the first place. I had the same questions.
You need to be signed up with a PRO and if not consider doing this TODAY...if you want to start shopping your music to publishers and supervisors. Keep in mind you can still lease your music as "Royalty-Free". The person that leases your track never pays royalties. It's the broadcast companies and it's all dependent on if your track is used in a national/global broadcast.
I wrote a in depth forum post here a while back. COMPOSERs, PUBLISHERs and PROs, Oh my!
My point is, working with Aaron and Gary...is awesome. Today is the day to decide, Aaron said the price is going from $199.99 today back to $299.99 tomorrow (June 23rd) and only if you sign up today Gary Gray will give you a full critique on 2 songs and 5 mastered versions of each.

Hi Nathan.
The checkout is still showing $299.99 not $199.99.
This doesn't really inspire me with confidence.
I think I will pass this time.
Thanks anyway,
Been really nice talking to you.
Michael.
