Surfing Pond5

I know I'm not alone in this.....I search P5, specifically, and also randomly, to learn what people are contributing, what sells, what various clips are worth, and mostly, for fun.

Forget YouTube and all that, surfing P5 is much more fun!

I see it almost as flying weightless and invisible around the world to amazing places and unbelievable and beautiful (and scary) situations, and dropping into someone's head, seeing a slice of life from their point of view, for just a moment, and then flitting away to some other reality.

The clips and variety are truly amazing - I almost feel that perhaps, were I an archaeologist of a race in some distant future, I could rebuild the world we are now in, both fact and fantasy ... just from the data amassed here!

Oh, the possibilities....

Do you suppose it really is possible to construct the world we live on using just the recordings sold here on Pond5? Imagine the bragging rights for that!

Yeah, kinda like that.....but in stepping out from the perspective of one living an aspect of the current state of things, one could, perhaps, see the way to reconstructing a version of this world from the actual footage, especially involving the activities of those strange bipedal life-forms, and nature, but what would an alien uber-mind make of all the creative compositing, fractals and CG?

Well I guess that would depend on too many things to factor. How do their senses function? How do their minds "process data" or think? What are their morals, ethics, or priorities if any? How were they raised? Are they humanoid, insectoid, mammalian, reptilian, or floating blobs of energy? Does any of this matter from our point of view since we have only been able to detect simple critters from asteroids and beyond.

Quite correct. ANY one of those variables you mentioned, and/or those you haven't, isolated, or combined with other variables, will cause huge changes in the reconstruction.

It wouldn't matter at all - consider perhaps our evolving understanding of prehistoric life forms, even early man and civilizations....were we to go back in time and grab some of those people and plop them into a reconstruction of their world as we know it, they would likely freak out.

So, too, would we. Given that we are likely to have obliterated ourselves by the time the extraterrestrial microbes evolve into the super race that will be snooping around in the remains of our civilization get around to doing so, they will have to had developed the technology to recreate us as individuals, whether it be from DNA samples or synthesized us from their skewed interpretation of records they scratched out of the P5 servers they discovered in the ice-scoured skeletal remains of NYC....

Things would be very strange indeed.

You have a dark view of mankind's future. I like the ET version better. Little things with stretchy necks, glowing fingers and heart cavities, big blue eyes, and cool brains that can use telekinesis to fly my bike over the cop cars and up up into the night's sky and..erm...okay flashbacks of a cool movie taken too far :)

It could go many different ways, and only necessarily dark or negative from the POV of those experiencing the change.

I'll admit though, my version is closer to AI than ET.
