FileZilla advice please

I've been having trouble uploading via ftp all day. Never used to be a problem, but I have discovered now is that the upload goes well for smaller files (a 5Mb test file went through fine), but a 22Mb file only makes it through to about 75% of the file size, then the connection is reset, giving the EEDISCONNECT (or something like that) error.

Normally, when a file is partially uploaded, the partly uploaded file will be visible on the right panel of FileZilla interface, but today, nothing - as soon as the connection is broken, the file on the right just disappears.

Any ideas what I could change my side to fix this, or is the problem elsewhere? Is there a FileZilla timeout setting perhaps?

but the FTP servers have been replaced since then so our problems might not be related at all.

Also since then I have had the BT engineer out and he's fixed the problem with the line which casued the broken uploads, so I have a stable connection again. One thing I do know is that the current version of FileZilla doesn't seem to be able to recover from the ECONN DISCONNECT condition, or whatever the message is. According to posts I saw on several message boards while trying to research my problem the FileZilla developers say it's working properly, yet to everyone else it seems to have been broken in one of the Version 3 releases.

I have downgraded to FileZilla 2.2.32 which was the last of the version 2's, and I have not had a show-stopping fatal ECONN message since.

I aso had issues with the newer Filezilla. I dowgraded to version 3.1.6 and no problems. When you get a version that works, stick with it. With the new P5 ftp servers I had real problems but Marcus made a few changes and everything works great now. Try an old version.

I was going mental a couple of weeks ago with Filezilla. I couldn't get Filezilla to move through my queue - it kept uploading the same file over and over again. First time I'd ever had this issue in almost a year. I had to break down and call my IT guy - who reconfigured my router and modem, and now all is well again. Not sure that's the answer you're looking for but in my case it was definitely a router / modem miscommunication issue.

I think my issue is most closely related to orbitrob's symptoms - I upgraded to the new version of FileZilla yesterday since the previous one was giving me hassles.

The same thing happens though - it re-uploads the same file over an over. I am not convinced it is FZ though, and will test it today, but think it is caused by a router issue.

Interesting, maybe Marcus can throw some light on this - I downgraded to the previous version of FZ, but the problem remains. Resume seems to be not supported. The upload is terminated and restarted instantly.

Then I tried the same setup at a different site. The transfer also got interrupted, but resume here was supported, and after the interruption, the file resumed uploading as expected. File uploaded successfully elsewhere!

Downgraded to FileZilla 2.2.32, tried uploading again, but same issue, just a differently worded error code. The connection is broken, the program tries to resume but suddenly the files on the right of screen disappear, and FZ wants to start re-uploading them since they are still unfinished in the queue. I tried uploading two files simultaneously to see if I could pick up a pattern but to no avail - both have been zapped on Pond's side, gone forever. I will have to suspend all uploads to Pond5 until I can resolve this.

Have you tried a different FTP?

When I ran into problems with Filezilla, I tried Cross FTP and have been very happy. Cross FTP stopped the same file uploading again, instead of going to the next file in the que, which the later version of Filezilla used to do.

Thanks Norman, I will give it a bash! I have tried Cross FTP before, on my Mac, but it did not do well.

What I don't understand is why all of a sudden FZ is acting up. Maybe a setting server-side? I have mail the Pond about it.

A couple weeks ago the server at p5 locked me out for a few days. Marcus made some changes and everything works great now. Drop him a note. I'm sure he's reading this and looking into it now.
