That artist does have some pretty interesting and original work. I'll give him that.
But the bottom line is it has sold 3 times

This just made my day, and the fact that it has sold 3 times makes me even happier for disco man.

Yeah Ive seen that guys clips before, I really like his stuff.
I tend to do a lot of weird off the wall stuff as well. I think originality is more important than making generic clips. Which may seem counter intuitive too, especially to someone who is new to stock.

Reminds me of "Pulp fiction" when they bring out the gimp!
Just had a look at this other clips, he/she has a good eye for detail.

I just wonder how he thought this one up. Was it like, "I know, I'll make a clip of a lucha libre guy doing disco in an empty room with the lights going on and off. Yeah, that'll sell!"
Who thinks like that?

even crazier, what ad exec said, "I know! We need a guy dancing in a mexican fighter mask to sell our product! Go find one!"

Probably a documentation about the crazy stuff you can find on the net. ;-)
Oh and a most-funny-homevideo show might buy it, too. Add a bit of shake and a gentle bad camera effect and it looks more like home made.

Its distinctiveness thats important, they were probably searching for 'dancing.' The guy who made it was probably thinking of a way to make a dancing clip that wasnt already like the other thousands of dancing clips available.
The buyer was probably thinking "how can I differentiate my ad from the competitor."
Its more about entertainment than anything, I think its funny when people worry so much about shakiness, the codec, the camera, size, or whatever. Content has been and always will be king. Think about the first star wars. How long is the running time? like about 2 hours? if you had two hours of "high quality" stock footage would it be as popular as star wars? Hell no. Star wars has produced billions of dollars. Its entertaining. :)
