The zoom speed is controlled on how much you push the zoom rocker switch. A little is slow and a heavy push is fast.

anyone mess with the wifi function?

not yet and haven't tried the remote control either.

I know how to control a zoom rocker Don (. . . this one has not the nuance I prefer. The Z5U has a great zoom rocker/control. Sadly the AX100 has no LANC, so cannot use Varizoom (or other) controllers for stop/start/zoom, etc. That is all.

In other news, as is Sony's tendency so we can buy more buy more buy more, this "probably" indicates some better more pro features and control in the future: http://www.redsharknews.com/technology/item/1774-we-think-we-know-what-the-mystery-xdcam-from-sony-is?utm_source=www.lwks.com+subscribers&utm_campaign=b7b728b7a1-RSN_June20_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_079aaa3026-b7b728b7a1-75856945

On other video cams I own you could set the zoom speed so you always push the rocker the same and let the camera control it smoothly. I liked that option.

I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow with it... we will see how well it performs in those conditions :-)

Also using my fs700 and gh10.

RekindlePhoto, thanks for posting the link for firmware update, though I'll attempt the the 20-step process after a cup of coffee, especially since I can't seem to do the first step -- "check the current version of your software" (although I don't really need to do that).

Regarding the unfortunate lack of LANC, I came across a discussion about this on the ever-chatty dvinfo.net, where someone explains how to connect a remote via LANC using various adapters. It was beyond me, but here's the link to the LANC discussion on dvinfo:
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/digital-video-industry-news/520933-sony-fdr-ax100-46.html

(here's a sample: "re: the LANC... can you confirm the configuration you're using - I'm presuming the VMC-AVM1 adapter and RM-AV2 with the "D" A/V plug? I've got that combo and am trying to sort out using it with the RX series... it "should" work, but for some odd reason doesn't (see above!). The VPR1/VPR10 remotes use the MULTI, have the same chip that is in the AV2, which basically does the same thing in both units - allows remote control of zoom, on/off, shutter, record (the VPR "handle" I have adds a couple things)."

If anyone can make sense of it, please post. Thanks!

Seems like the zoom is a two-speed, slower in record (although with the new firmware it should be faster? which I haven't checked yet) Hey! I'll check now.Well now it's a 4 or 5 speed. With clear "jumps" in between each, so that's not really a useful improvement. I'll stick to slow and try not to wobble. (For you critical types thinking I shouldn't be zooming in/out for shots it's true, as a general rule, but sometimes it works well to illustrate things)

bakdc: Thanks for the info, but could you recheck the link? Doesn't seem to work. Also: Your version will not show up until you update. Yeah, I spent a good amount of time looking for it....

It worked for me. Try clearing your cache.
