pond5 now takes 65% of sales?

My more than 10 years of experience working with 15 different distributors suggests that this is most likely the end of Pond5.
The same thing happened with other agents, after which they slowly died.

This is the wrong way

Such confusion, Pond5 was a good place for me.
I loved it. (((

I'm incredibly infuriated by this nonsensical change.

Their reasoning is nothing more than a distraction from a process they had already been smoothly undertaking without issue during a 50/50 split, and now corporate greed progresses as we so pathetically expect it to.

There was no reason for this change other than greed.

I previously saw this site as superior to Envato's "AudioJungle" which has a 45/55 split, and an even greater split if you sell exclusively.

Well, it seems I may turn to exclusivity after all.

Pond5, get your act together.

I always felt that Pond5 were supporting the artists/creators with the 50/50 split. I looked at that business model and though it was fair and I had a lot of respect for them doing that. I never imagined it would end up with P5 taking 65% of my earnings and ending up being the lowest % my work gets anywhere now. I'm really disappointed as P5 contributed a decent amount to my earnings and I always felt we were working for each other.

Initially I was very excited about Pond5 as an additional stream of revenue for my creative work. I have however removed all of my sound effects and won't be uploading anymore. Out of principal I cannot support the race to the bottom for the value of original content simply because it has been labeled as "industry standard". The industry is wrong. Business models need to be sustainable both for professional creators and resellers alike. The new split is inequitably balanced in one direction.

In search of a new home for my work...

A Letter from the CEO :

Dear Artist,

Today, I am announcing an important change that will strengthen the Pond5 marketplace and benefit the many contributors who have made us the most artist-friendly stock-media marketplace in the world. Pond5 was founded on the principle of providing artists with control over the pricing of their content and equitably sharing royalties earned from licensing that content. We are proud to say that we will never waver from these founding principles, even as we adapt to evolving market conditions.

Regards,

Jason Teichman
CEO, Pond5

@Woodmill I agree and posted the same link right before you, so based on what was said then why this extreme cut, there has to be a better way. Those of us that create and record SFX in my opin are really at a loss as we can't charge as high a price as those that are doing mainly music. I would hope that somehow this can be changed so that we can get the fair share we all deserve while still allowing for the changes in the market that seem to be happening.

'We are proud to say that we will never waver from these founding principles, even as we adapt to evolving market conditions.'

Sad isn't it.

I hope that Pond5 will reset the share to 50/50 again.
