Got my new AX100 a few days ago and wouldnt you know it . . .the weather has turned to crap and I'm stuck inside so can't really test it. But seems good so far.
I have uploaded the one good clip I did manage to shoot between weather events. Had to use AE to trim and render it though as I cant get Sony Vegas pro 12(my editing software of choice) to output a 4K mov file. Every time I put in the dimensions of 3840 x 2160 it defaults back to 2048 on the width and something similar on the height but it varies. There is no UHD 4k preset. Anybody else using Sony Vegas having this issue?

That's just another reason why I no longer use Sony Vegas aside from the constant crashing that software does. AE and Premiere Pro do a wonderful job.

Vegas 13 Pro. Works better than any of the previous versions. Got the upgrade for a song when I was researching the AX100 and wanted to test out some footage I got off the net. I think the other versions have UHD presets.

Thanks Gene . . . so are you saying the 4k mov render option works in Vegas Pro 13?
Did it work for you in version 12 or did you bypass that version?
When I said preset I meant for a mov output render . . . there are certainly UHD presets for setting the AX100 file up on the timeline.
Thanks

I tried playing and rendering in v11, no dice. Did I say 12? I meant 11 (I'm a version skipper) I downloaded the trial of 13, and everything worked great.
I'll be honest though, (since I was just saying it was better) I just had a crash rendering UHD with some FX and also rendering another file stabilized in AE at the same time while 26 tabs are open in Chrome. The thing that locked up was Vegas. Not perfect, just a lot better.

A testament to the stabilization (active mode): Saw this shot forming while I was driving, screeched to a stop as safely and legally as possible, grabbed the camera, got it on, flipped the ND up one notch, and shot, handheld. It was usable wihtout Warp Stabilizer, but I used it anyway to make sure.

You can't render mov 4k in vegas 12 but you can do it in vegas 13...

Yes it didn't work for me with Vegas 12 which is the version I have.
Miz; How much zoom did you have on that shot as it is very smooth? I was doing some video with the AX100 yesterday with it on a tripod and about 10 times zoom and breezy. Footage pretty much unusable with what looks like rolling shutter. Wide shots were all ok. Definitely a camera with limitations but when it all works what amazing pictures. Watching the video on a Dell 28" with 2560 x 1440 pixels and although not a 4k monitor, my old HD clips look sad by comparison!

Mark, it's surprising that you got RS jello etc while on a tripod. I've got shots taken at full zoom (tracking birds, etc) that have no such issues, and handheld is really surprisingly good, even tracking birds from boat. However, it's REALLY susceptible to vibration, perhaps flutter on a light tripod in wind?... the slightest bump at tele and you get garbage. Is your tripod a good one?
Frankly, given the rolling shutter stuff I've seen on outtakes and between shots, I'm surprised it's not more of an issue during "real" shooting, but so far only a bit of correctable skew.
I just looked at the two other shots I did at the same time ... one was zoomed in to 100% optical range, tracking an eagle. The other was full wide, scenic. Based on the fact they were all pointed in the same direction and can see the same mountains in back, I'd say the shot above was at about 50% zoom. If that helps, I hope it does. I need to render those out and upload them anyway, so by tonight maybe I'll have something to show you.

Oh - you DO have stabilization turned off when on tripod, right? That's gotten me a couple times when I forgot it was still on Active mode....had me wondering later what the hell I was doing jiggling the camera so much!
