Canon rumors

If we could have a solid camera with 4k recording and a good codec you won't be upgrading for a few years... Unless you just love buying new cameras.

One would assume it would last a number of years but the way technology is changing it could very well be outdated in 2-3 years. The specs look great on the camera. We will have to see what it is actually capable of in the real world. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have this camera, but I can upgrade a GH series camera 4 times for the price of this one camera. It will have to be absolutely amazing at this point to convince me to go in that direction (I also lost all faith in Canon over the last 3 years). Then again, the GH5 may come out and end up with only minor improvements and nothing groundbreaking. I really can't make a decision on a new camera until both the GH5 and 5d Mark iv have been released.

It comes down to what you need I think.

My fs700 + Odyssey 7Q 4k combo still outperforms anything I have purchased in the last 2 years, and that is a few years old now... it's just a PAIN in the butt because it is too large, files are too big, etc. I still see it being better than anything coming out today (picture quality), and you can pick it up now for about $7000.

The 1DX II should have far superior photo capability than the GH4. That is what I'm looking for a great 4K and great Photo camera in one. The Sony RX10 II, AX-100 and GH4 just don't really have pro quality photos. For me a camera that will shoot 4K at 60 fps with great photos is a done deal and fast buy. Like Jake said I do want to see some footage and photos from real users and not Canon propaganda first.

The 5D MK II and MK III has lasted for many years, the 1DX II will be great for many years. The superior weather proofing is a huge plus over the cheaper completion. I don't really like the bigger body but quality is the main factor. I just don't see myself buying a camera that requires an external recorder to gain the best quality. Too much junk to carry.

That is a huge plus if you are wanting it for photos as well. You should buy it and then tell me how it is :) Better yet, I'll come visit and play with it myself. It is possible still for Canon to win me back but it will take a lot of doing. For now my plan is to hold on to my 5d iii for photos and gh4 for video.

True I still have the 5D MK II and II for photos and both the Sony AX-100 and RX-10II for 4K video. This combination is still great for both photo and video. Just hoping to put one camera around my neck again like the 5D MK II/III did for HD footage.

I wish the 1DX II was available now, getting ready for another three weeks in Europe shooting footage.

I don't understand why they used MJPEG which we consider to be an outdated format?

I dunno. Seems the cheaper small sensor cameras can almost do 4K as good or better. I still sell MJPEG clips every week. 4K at 60 fps sounds like fun especially in full 4K instead of UHD.

The 4K codec will be my biggest concern, but will be interesting to read about the first test shots. The camera will be available early spring here in Norway. I have lot of L-lenses so I´m not sure about changing brands or even using adapters.
But I think I will hold a bit until the early adopters has used it and reported how this feel.
