DJI SUCKS

RekindlePhoto 4 Oct 2016 23:51
Careful on updating any firmware they come out with. Let others test it first. They updated the firmware on the 2+ a while back. The firmware fried the wifi transmitter and thousands of quads are now drones with no video feed. DJI pulled the firmware soon afterwards but still denies there is a overall wifi problem. So just let others test DJI stuff first and don't be their test and evaluation people with no after support.

Copy that. Thanks.

It's working now with icepack workaround. Should have replacement controller early next week, so I just have to get through one or two flights at most.

Gene; I had transmission problems(wouldn't connect) between controller and ipad and the local agent here said that was most likely caused by the usb connector on the back of the controller . . . he said a lot of people had that issue and the fix is to "prise" up the pins in the controller so they better engage with the lightning cable when inserted or to try a different cable. Havent had a chance to test it as I manged to stuff the camera and gimbal when I hit a large immovable object with my P3! Not too upset because i now have a new camera. . . . wasn't happy with the old one . . . it had a horrible lens flare when looking into the sun like no lens flare I had seen before. Dealer agreed it looked bad but despite lots of emails and pics to DJI in China they insisted there was no problem. . . apparently all there lens are meant to work like that lol. Thats my only dealings with DJI support but not overly encouraging. Will have to install the new camera and see if its better or its going back.

"... despite lots of emails and pics to DJI in China they insisted there was no problem."

That is the problem. China controls the support. Even though they may have in country people who answer the phones, China still controls everything and their way of support is so much different than USA or UK based decision makers.

My own personal tester ... here I am waiting for Payday ...

Just got in from re-testing my system ... left out in the shop all night, and it works. 48 degrees F

Never heard the prong bending thing Mark ... it's possible that the cold causes the casing to contract, and force connection where it is marginal? I'll look into that. (watch out for large immovably objects!)

Although I really do not trust DJI customer service, when they are not broke they work well. I'm pretty sure I'll get both the Mavic and the Karma. One for local and one for travel. When one breaks I can still operate. I like having a spare camera body and DJI by itself is too risky.

My Inspire 1 lasted for a year before I sold it .. fully operational. The only technical problems it had were from when I (ahem) made contact with large, immovable objects. I just didn't like the codec of the camera, nor did I like the distorted (camelback) image of the X3 camera. The Z3 doesn't have that distortion at least, and the codec isn't AS flickery, yet it does when lots of detail moving (similar to P4 footage I've seen) and I can only assume that the Mavic will have the same, but possibly less due to less electronic sharpening (one would hope)

Funny, the dealer to whom I complain about my recent A3/LB2 problems passed on my information, and a NY DJI rep (not Chinese ... a New Yorker US person) left a voicemail telling me to try different cables, tablet in airplane mode, yada yada yada, as if A) I'm an idiot and B) I didn't already tell them I had swapped cables, tablets, etc, and C) found the only thing making a difference in connection was the temperature of the controller. I HATE tech/dealer condescension.

For what it's worth, speaking with Chinese staff has always been fruitful and helpful, but then I approach it making sure they know the specifics, and we get along well.

My Phantom 2 set up needed some tweaks here and there, but usually worked well.

Phantom 4 has been almost flawless

The DJI service center in Bangkok is excellent fixed my Phantom 2 twice for cheap.

I like to hear that. Because I'm either a positive guy or an optimist, I believe that honor prevails.

Been fighting with the system all night. Big flight tomorrow. This is THE upcoming epic flight that inspired the expenditure of well over $3000 to create this system ... so despite the fact that it isn't connecting now .. I have my fingers crossed. Good thing lives don't depend on DJI.

Wait a minute rjt98 .. you broke your Phantom twice? What happened? Stay AWAY from the hard things!
