Slow Motion

Twixtor is for whatever video editor you use. I use it with After Effects and it can produce cool results as long as you dont try to push it to far. When there are a lot of fast moving objects it can kind of melt everything becuase it is making up in-between frames using pixel velocity/direction kind of.

Like kk5hy said though, probably best to just get a mid grade high speed camera, then try to push that a little with software. Mostly just using software I have had mixed results.

This is using Twixtor, not much to it, just messing around with wave stuff.

This clip was taken with a video cam at 1/10000 of a second.

Nice clips at the thumbnail size but I'll leave the software slow motion for you guys.
There is just no way for software to do the same job as camera acquired.

I have the Canon 7D which shoots 720p at 60fps and a Panasonic TM700 that does 1080 60p with both these camera if I know I going to produce a slow motion clip I shoot at 1/120 or 1/250 shutter speed and in the timeline alter the frame rate by 50%.

Jason, I just watched your video to see if maybe I was wrong in this. In a few frames you can see where parts of the birds wing disappears then "re-attaches" itself back to the bird.

This is just what I'm talking about using software to do slow motion instead of camera acquired.
I also noticed it hasn't sold. So either buyers don't need a cool video of a slow-mo humming bird or they don't need software made slo-mo and see the same things I saw?
As I said, I've done slow motion in my own work and used Twixtor but I would never do that to resell as stock.

Sorry, but you guys are not looking at the video as a buyer would. That is the reason most other sites won't accept this.

If you use the basic software it disappears and reappears. If you use Twixtor it guesses the path of pixels to make up the in between frames. I do agree with you, that a real high speed camera is far better.

I would love to have a Phantom just for 1 day. :) Getting 25000 fps would really do the trick.

kk5hy - I am very curious for elucidation regarding your remark that Sony Vegas encodes at a lesser quality than others...isn't it up to the codec and settings used? Might be fodder for a different topic....

Below are four clips of mine in which I used Vegas to slow it down. The last one (fluff) I don't necessarily expect to sell, but the texture of that shot, and the detail of the iridescent fluff is just gorgeous. However there is some judder visible at the end, but it is after the fluff disappears. You know how long I spent trying to get what I got?

The rainbow shot was done at a high shutter speed and so "captured" miniature rainbows in each raindrop prism. It wasn't the effect I wanted at first, but it was visible in the viewfinder, and so I shot it. I shot the same thing again, but at a normal shutter speed, but it did not have the character....

And the reflection in the water I thought came out great.

The pills sold - this is one clip that I think really benefited from slo mo in post, although I would say that I would MUCH have preferred to use it in camera. However, the slo-mo function of the Z5u yields really crappy resolution, except for web publication. I'll do more with my FS100 or EX1r when I get them....
