1080 vs 720

If you were having problems it may have been with an older version of AE. In new AE 5.5 I have not noticed prablems at all. Looks fantastic. I don't do this often though so I would do some research before buying software.

@physics mizamook uses Vegas and can convert them in that sofware.

Got quite a bit of footage of VW buses moving very fast (ya, ya, I know...it's a relative term) past the camera, and the jaggedies don't go away, whether I blend or interpolate fields. The closest I've gotten was a kind of blur, which didn't do it justice either.

Several clips of old are like that. Part of the problem was that back then, I didn't know of the problem. I haven't revisited it since the beginning of the year, and before that not at all, but it is an issue I will have to deal with...

Look up Gene Cornelius on Vimeo and see the Mt. Shasta Snow Trip Friday-Sunday videos. You can't see the interlacing as much on the compressed Vimeo version, but it is certainly there...that's after a lot of experimenting!

Oh I believe you. Just thought the newer software dealt with it better. I hate looking at old footage of cool stuff and thinking, what a shame I didn't have a 5d.

Well part of it is that old footage frequently does have strikes against it, whether they are technical, lack of skill, older technology, etc. We still can use it, but without some kind of magic, it doesn't hold up to the more recent stuff. But affordable technology and processes do come into existence, so I am hoping to find some ways to improve on the old stuff before I get around to needing to use that older footage, especially since it is going to be DV mixed with HDV, both progressive and interlaced.

On that note, I did mention to Jason that the deinterlacing does work a LOT better from HDV 60i to 30p than it does from DV. (I still see the combing, however on fast stuff) Probably both a resolution thing as well as the fact that 60i to 30p is effectively using both fields, whereas 29.975 fps DV does not have that to offer....

But remember the diccussion was about 720P to 1080p not DV.

Yeah, I dont get the combing on the 1080 conversion from AE CS5.5, but the source may effect it also. Not sure.
