First time I took the Glidecam out in public.....on a sheet of ice, almost got run over by a forklift, slipped on the ice, and fell off the dock! Got some room for improvement....

I was lucky to get to the right spot at the right time and get these shots. Then everyone was kicked back behind a fence and then back a few hundred metres because of a fear of explosions. The couple of TV networks that broadcast footage must have arrived behind me because they had the shots from behind the fence and later when the fire was all but out. One thing stock video shooting teaches you is to take your tripod with you at all times, , , the footage from the TV networks was all shot without one and suffered for it.

Terrible situation, agreed… but absolutely gorgeous shots. And yes, the fact that the frame is steady with so much movement inside makes it even more spectacular. Well done birkley!

Thanks guys. No one injured but it was a huge fire with fire appliances called in from up to a hundred miles away. We live 4 miles from this fire and there was fine ash over everything the next day. It was a cardboard molded fruit trays and egg tray carton factory so those things can burn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INuKoz0-5xY if you want an idea of the size of the fire. Fire crew in this video tracked me down through a few frame grabs I put up on Facebook and asked if they could have a copy of the pics. Were thrilled when I explained I had about 15 minutes of raw hi def video of them in action!
